Kyuss Posted December 31, 2003 Posted December 31, 2003 I was doing some maintenance on my saltwater aquariums and had an idea. How well do you think a aquarium chiller would work for cooling in a water cooled setup? Obviously you'd have to have a resevior, but I don't care about that. The one I showed is a cheaper model but we aren't cooling 100 gallons of water or anything. The one I showed says 6-8 cooler than ambient temperature on a 10 gallon aquarium, so with only a couple of gallons in a resevior you should get alot better cooling. How warm does the water get in a water cooled setup? I've never had any experience with this so it's just one of those 'I wonder' ideas that popped in my head. If it sounds at all feasible I might have to try it seeming as the chiller is only around $100. I suppose a bigger chiller would work, but they get expensive quick and then you may as well go to phase change or something else more extreme. Lemme know what you think. RVE Posted December 31, 2003 Posted December 31, 2003 I think it would work, I think I've seen a few setups using one of those too. Seen a few pics around the web a while back. I think it would work awesome, but really cold water meeting really hot heatsink may produce condensation if the water is ultra cold. I think that may be the biggest thing to keep an eye out for. Besides condensation, it should make some killer temps.
Eva_Unit_0 Posted December 31, 2003 Posted December 31, 2003 Yeah, that looks cool. From the description, sounds like it's pretty much a peltier that's simply cooling water instead of a chip. Sounds like a great idea!
