razor Posted April 23, 2009 Posted April 23, 2009 so last fall/winter was the first season of the OCC Fantasy Football League - it was tons of fun, every team owner was cool, and I ended up winning the championship! not only did I perform some textbook domination (which was very satisfying), I got an awesome prize too. so, here is - courtesy of Bosco - my prize: a spankin new XFX GTX 260 Black Edition. pardon my crappy pics, but I wanted to show off my card, and a size comparison between the GTX and my 8800 GTS 512. this card is a monster! and here's a few screenshots, comparing the performance of the 8800 GTS to the GTX 260. both cards were left at stock speeds, and run on the machine in my sig at its posted specs. the first two pics are comparison shots using 3DMark06, and the last is the GTX 260 after a 3DMark Vantage run @ the Performance preset. left to right: 8800 GTS 3DMark06, GTX 260 3DMark 06, and GTX 260 3DMark Vantage the synthetic benchmarks dont tell the whole story, though. this GTX 260 is much more powerful in game situations than the 8800 GTS ever was. I'm consistently getting between 35-40 FPS in Crysis Warhead with all settings set to "gamer" at 1440x900. I didnt run FRAPS, but in COD WAW I've got everything maxed out - including AA and AF - running at 1680x1050 with no slowdowns or hiccups, and motion is extremely fluid. my GPU [email protected] production is up significantly, too - and I think that's my favorite bonus from this upgrade. sweet! Thank You Bosco and OCC!! :thumbs-up:
Onion Posted April 23, 2009 Posted April 23, 2009 Nice. Thats exactly what I said when I unboxed my 260. I said "HOT DAMN! THIS'LL NEVER FIT IN MY CASE!" And it didnt...now I have to buy a dremel to mod it so I can close the side.

kingdingeling Posted April 24, 2009 Posted April 24, 2009 Now where are those folding benchmarks?
razor Posted April 24, 2009 Posted April 24, 2009 Now where are those folding benchmarks? yeah, about that... guess who nuked his server BIOS the other day? that's right, this guy did...I'm such a douche. so, I'm down one CPU and one GPU, and I need to get to Radio Shack to buy some 75 ohm resistors to make a dummy plug for my old GTS to get some multi-GPU awesomeness happening. hoping to have most (or all) of that fixed and ready by the end of the weekend. then it's on, baby! :thumbs-up:
Onion Posted April 24, 2009 Posted April 24, 2009 I love the 666 factory overclock speeds! THat is one great card there. Lol, I had that on my other GTX 260, I couldn't help but taking a screenshot of it.
The Smith Posted April 24, 2009 Posted April 24, 2009 heh...I've already named it Screamin Evil. Yeah, my GTX260 also screams when I put it to folding. I'm not joking. BTW a GTX260 and a 8800GTS will not fold in the same computer.
razor Posted April 24, 2009 Posted April 24, 2009 BTW a GTX260 and a 8800GTS will not fold in the same computer. I've spent some time over at the [email protected] forums, and the only negative thing I saw was that the 2nd GPU (the GTS) would not fold as well as it would if it were the only GPU in the system. the reason for that problem is that they dont have an identical (or wholly divisible) number of stream processors. I already mentioned needing the dummy plug, because I know I have to fool Vista into thinking that I've extended my desktop on the GTS. why dont you think it'll work at all? Coors Posted April 24, 2009 Posted April 24, 2009 might want to keep an eye on this thread and see how it works out for him http://www.evga.com/forums/tm.asp?m=100621...
