TheConqueror Posted April 6, 2009 Posted April 6, 2009 (edited) Hey guys, which of these is the better mobo? I wanna stay away from the Asus M4A79 cause its quite a bit pricey.. There is also an (Asus) M3N-HT Deluxe motherboard that looks identical to the M4A79 Deluxe except it supports SLI and has onboard VGA (im gonna disable it probably). Anyway will it overclock as well as the M4A79? Whats the difference between the Nvidia 780a chipset and SB750? Will there be any performance difference? I just want to know basically every single difference between the two explained (like I have the confusion about the chipsets, OCing etc) Asus M3N-HT : http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?...N82E16813131343 Because it's and SLI mobo, do I need an special SLI components except video cards (such as RAM) ? Omg why doesnt anyone reply to my threads Edited April 7, 2009 by TheConqueror

TheConqueror Posted April 7, 2009 Posted April 7, 2009 The Foxconn is out of my budget (its 300, then like 40 to ship.. ) And also I forgot to mention what I wanted to do with the board :S Basically I want to OC my phenom II 940 as far as I can on my cooler, would be great to hit the magic 4 ghz Gaming Intergrated audio, since I dont really need a separate soundcard to hear gunshots.. Also couple of questions about the M3N-HT 1) Can I remove the RAM heatsink? I am getting Pi Blacks and they run cool enough 2) Will it OC well even with the Nvidia chipset 3) Does it have front panel connectors for HDD Led and Power LED? spectrascope Posted April 7, 2009 Posted April 7, 2009 Gigabyte just hit 6ghz with this mobo http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?...N82E16813128377 with a Phenom 2
DeathNote Posted April 7, 2009 Posted April 7, 2009 Just to point it out, the 780a is a NORTH-BRIDGE Chip set while the SB750 is a SOUTH-BRIDGE Chip set. IE: they do different things. If you just Google search the north-bridge model #, you can easily find information about it.
TheConqueror Posted April 7, 2009 Posted April 7, 2009 (edited) @ Spectra - I dont feel like going AM3 @ Deathnote - Oh yaaa now I remember, the southbridge is responsible for overclocking and USB organizing or something. So I am good there, and northbridge controls the RAM and CPU types. So anyway the two mobo's are pretty much even, just one is lower in cost and has SLI.. I will go with the M2N-HT Does anybody know if the RAM heatsink is removable there? And finally, why is it slightly cheaper then the M4A79? It has pretty much all the same features, so what are the catches? Edited April 7, 2009 by TheConqueror
DeathNote Posted April 7, 2009 Posted April 7, 2009 The M4A79 Deluxe is actually alot cheaper on NEWEGG.COM instead of .CA (its only $199 on the .COM). I dont know if the .COM can ship to canada (assuming you live there considering your using the canadian newegg) but check it out. Personally, I would say that if you are not going to use the SLI, go with the M4A79 Deluxe. You already said you probally wont need the on-board video, and the M4A79 board has a ATI 790FX NB chip on it while the other board has a NVIDIA 780a NB Chipset. At that point, its up to you though. I just ordered that board and it will be at my house tomorrow to go along with the Phenom II 940 that I ordered. Nuclear had that board and he said its GREAT and that it has awesome overclocking features. He used that board to get his 940 up to 4.01GHz
TheConqueror Posted April 7, 2009 Posted April 7, 2009 (edited) So if the M3N-HT would be cheaper, would you buy it over the M4A79? I dont care about the onboard video, or SLI, those are just extra features that I MIGHT use in the future, it just comes out cheaper, so I want to know why if both are pretty much the same *Edit* NVM there is a no memory heatpipe version which is slightly cheaper, so I will just get that So basically I can expect the same results as a M4A79? *Edit 2* There is also this motherboard which is highest rated on newegg : http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?...N82E16813157134 Edited April 8, 2009 by TheConqueror
DeathNote Posted April 8, 2009 Posted April 8, 2009 I would still stick with that M4A79 Deluxe board Even though the M3N-HT is a good board, if you just look at its ratings, not even 1/2 of the ratings are 5/5 while the Deluxe board is 89% 5/5 ratings. On that alone, it makes me question the board. The M4A79 Deluxe board has easy access to almost all components and (as I mentioned above), Nuclear has already stated this boards does very well on overclocking.
