I love ATi cards, and it has nothing to do with the benching messup. I feel that ATi produces a better card and you get what you pay for. I currently own 5 ATi cards all a 9600Pro or better and I love every one of them. They've all put up with abuse and messups. I owned a nvidia card once and it lasted 6 months under my testing, I just feel like ATi has the best thing going right now.

BTW: Anybody notice that ATi's sales rose 40% in the last quarter, pretty impressive to me :D

Well I'd hate to say it, but I'm switching to ATI. Right now they are just far superior to the FX series. I have never had any problems with the Geforce series card, but with the new FX series... well they never should have made the FX. I bet that in about two years Nvidia will come back and you will all be using them again, they just seem to trade places for "Best Company" every few years. :)

:withstupid: Yeah, remember when the 9700pro first came out? It was directX 9 compliant, and directX 9 hadn't even been released yet! Nvidia, on the other hand, was still messing around with dx 8.1 stuff...it seems like the fx series was simply a last-minute project to try and match ati's r300. Perhaps nvidia had gotten too confident. Edited by Eva_Unit_0

perhaps? no they did. but I can't say they're the first or last big company to screw up like that. Look at 3dfx. having a big head KILLED that company. Same with S3/Diamond. it hurt WD for a while, killed IBM's drive and pc division, destroyed DELL and compaq's names, reduced GM to a second rate truck, demolished palm's dominance of the market, cut the value of Ford stock to next to nothing, made intel release the very doomed PIII 1.13 coppermine (all had to be recalled), and it's even obvious in asus now (sudden bios death syndrome), coke and "new coke" ... my god the list of similar blunders in business could go on and on. Thankfully nvidia learned from their former rival 3dfx and did manage to diversify themeselves (nforce2/3 are a good thing). at the same time each time nvidia takes a misstep, ati jumps right in and makes the fight even better. the new ati motherboard chipsets should make the ati/nvidia battle a motherboard issue too :)

oh well, just remember, this competition is going to lead to ONE thing... better prices and performance for US. We're the real winners of battles like this

Probablly im the ONLY nVidia fan boy here, but my EVGA FX5900 kicks some @ss.. At stock it was 400/850 the newer FX5900 core, and now is 507/951 .. I play all my games with everything up and still never drops below 30FPS, even on Max Payne 2... My card is far surpior to the 9600 series, 9700pro, and even can be compared with stock 9800Pro's..

Until we bust out the Half-Life 2 benchmarks. I not trying to sound mean, but it's the truth. You've seen the numbers yourself, right? A 5900 ultra couldn't even hang with a 9600pro. The Valve programmers even made mention of the fact that they had to reduce the colordepth of the pixel shaders they used with the fx hardware to make it playable. (they basically had to reduce it back to dx 8.1 shaders) Sure under dx 8.1 the fx series can hang with its ati competition, but under dx9 it's a completely different story. It once again goes back to the fact that ati worked very closely with microsoft in developing the dx9 standard. Nvidia just kind of eyeballed it instead, and didn't hit the mark.

I'm still an Nvidia fan, but you have to admit the best chip for price/performance is the 9600XT. Also I hear that the 9800 Pro has better picture quality than the FX9000 and picture quality is something I care more about than fps.
