I know I could PM him, but I think everyone could benefit out of this.

I looked at your sig man, and my jaw dropped. Out of all those killer systems, which one do you like the best/performs the best?

*drools @ all your 9800's*

i thought folding was over? thats why i never started :bah:

Folding isn't "over". The folding@Home project is still running, and our team is still in the top 40 and moving up. The Folding@Home Contest that we had a while back is "over", but that was just one contest, there will be more to come. Even without the contest, we'd still like to see OCC in the top 20 (or better yet top 10 or 5).

Question 1: If you were to sit down and play a game like call of duty for example, on one of those systems. You'd never know which one it was unless you asked or checked system properties. The benchmarks rank the higher clocked FX and Opteron over anything else by quite a bit, however the other ones are fast enough that you'd never know. Heck, they don't even seem much faster than my old 2800+ with 2gb and a 9800 pro 128mb.

Question 2: Having 2 problems with F@H that should be worked out within the next day or so. First and foremost to me is the security on the xeon farm. They're all there to make $$$ for me, and securely store a large amount of sensitive, expensive, and important data (law firms, doctors offices ect). I have F@H running on them, but the firewall is obstucting them from sending results in. second on the list of problems is the 64 bit version of windows strikes again (I'm going to smack someone at MS now). Seeing as all 3 of them are still pre-releases (though xp and 2k3 were supposed to be out by now), I have had tons of problems with certain apps not functioning or coming up with wacky results (3dmark: no cpu found sisoft: wrong OS version f@h: unsupported OS Seti: BLUE SCREEN OF DEATH and my personal favorite UT: cpu too slow). I have been reporting these problems to software vendors letting them know they need to address these things before MS finalizes thier 64 bit os. but most seem to believe it's MS problem to make it work... which is half true. F@H tech support has already responded to the email I sent them late last night, they told me they hope to work with me to sort the bugs out on this one and get it up and running (I get to be a beta tester for the new version), which so far is the only group that doesn't have it's head up thier rear ends on this.

also 3ghz may have to wait till the machII showes up next week :( I don't like seeing temps of 64c on a chip that retails for over $1k.

PS the 9800s are mostly orphans from other hardware junkies that upgraded from them and left them to die in the hands of compusa's tap policy.
