Savan Posted April 4, 2009 Posted April 4, 2009 My grandmother's computer is running Windows ME. A few days ago, it started getting stuck in an infinite boot cycle. I went over and did a system restore. Then yesterday, the problem started again, so I restored it a second time. Today, she called me and said that right after the welcome screen, she is getting an error that says "Not enough extended memory available to run Windows. Quit 1 or more applications to increase available memory or restart your computer." I have never seen this error, and it doesn't make any sense to me to come up right after the welcome screen because nothing is running yet. Restarting didnt solve the problem, and I have no idea what to do to fix it.
nVidia_Freak Posted April 4, 2009 Posted April 4, 2009 (edited) Bring over some RAM, probably SDR, and see if the problem goes away when you switch it out. Might be some crud on her computer that shouldn't be there that's taking up everything up. Consider backing up important doc's and reformatting? Might be referring to virtual memory, see what's up with that. Edited April 4, 2009 by nVidia_Freak

SMeeD Posted April 4, 2009 Posted April 4, 2009 People usually post surprised about when they arent having problems with Windows ME. You're not supposed to post about ME problems because its a given. /sarcasm Have you thought about moving her to a completely new OS? That install must be hosed. Phil Posted April 4, 2009 Posted April 4, 2009 Or just reinstall ME. If it does what she wants, why make her learn something else? Make sure that you check RAM and the HDD to make sure the problem isn't failing hardware. Also, ME doesn't like to install over an existing OS, best to run killdisk first. Compxpert Posted April 4, 2009 Posted April 4, 2009 There's your problem. That was my first impression. add a bit more memory or try changing out for different memory.
CheeseMan42 Posted April 5, 2009 Posted April 5, 2009 Back when I had ME, I fixed all my problems by popping in an XP Upgrade disk.
