Lian-Li Cube Mod (W.I.P)

Recommended Posts

Hey guys! A while back I owned a Lian-Li PC-V350B cube case and I absolutely loved it. It was a nice size, had some room for expansion, and had decent cooling for a cube / mATX case. I retired the case and eventually sold it to a local guy that I build computers for, it was kind of a sad day. Last week he called me up and decided the case was a little too plain, so I'll be performing a full mod on the case in hopes of spicing things up. I'll keep this thread up to date on the progress...it should be completed in no more than 3 weeks

Ideas / Mods to be performed: (More will probably be added later)

- Custom Paint

- Coat the inside

- Full H2O loop with a dual 120MM radiator

- Multiple Windows

- Case Lighting

After thinking it over, I decided to go with a custom flame paint job instead of the boring solid color approach. I taped the case up and threw down some custom licks. My hands are quite sore from all the slicing and dicing to cut the flames out, but in the end I'm very happy with the result.

The base coat is a simple black that appears almost identical to the stock Lian-Li aluminum color. The flames will be painted white and will be surrounded by a red pin stripe (I'm an old school hot rod guy). The plan is to have matching windows in each side panel with a window on top to show case the hard drive. I hope to have it painted by the weekend so if everything goes right I'll have some finished paint pics by Monday.

The H2O gear was ordered tonight and should be here by the end of the week so I can began test fitting it into the case before the frame goes to get all powdered up :) It's going to be a real chore fitting all that gear into that case, but I've measured everything very carefully and it all should fit like a glove.

Feel free to ask any questions and post any comments. I'll update the thread with more pics asap.

Thanks! I wanted to remind everyone that the V350 is one of Lian-Li's models that have side ejecting drive bays, so the top and sides are what you are seeing. I've gotten a few PMs asking why I oriented the flames sideways...so they're correct, the case just has an awkward drive bay location.

Yeah, it's going to be a tight fit. The V350 comes with dual 120MM fans in the front for intake, and luckily their fan spacing is perfect for a swiftech mcr-220 or magicool slim 240MM rad. The pump is being mounted in the original hard drive location and the drives are going in the drive bays with adapters. I thought of running 3/8" tubing for this build, but I just couldn't do it so I'll be going with standard 1/2" ID tubing.

It's been raining here all day so I'm not sure if I'll be able to lay down the base coat for the flames tonight. I do all of my painting in my garage and living in the south it gets quite humid on rainy days :(
