Psywar Posted March 30, 2009 Posted March 30, 2009 I bought fraps for my new pc: I have been playing world of warcraft, and my guild just recently did OS+3 Drakes (which is a big deal) I wanted to get a Fraps (Video) of the entire encounter come tues. But I noticed while using the program, my FPS in WoW drops to about 20FPS.. Which is not bad, but just kinda sucks. Anyone know how I could boost my performance in game while running the Fraps program? My Computer should be in my signature. Thanks! DLS2008 Posted March 30, 2009 Posted March 30, 2009 Overclock your CPU and GPU. Lower the settings in FRAPS and WoW.
Gr4vitas Posted March 30, 2009 Posted March 30, 2009 If quality isn't a huge issue, set it to half size rather than full size, that will cut the lag right off. Set your fps to 30 fps in fraps. Also loweringly your spell detail will specifically increase performance when recording. (Which you want to do anyway with 3D since they made phishers visible with lowest spell detail.) And that way you wont be able to see hunter frost traps. But if you want the highest quality possible video, thats a different story. One which I can help you with should you so need. Have a look at one of my videos here, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BcOi8LKTo48 watch it in HD.
WhenKittensATK Posted March 30, 2009 Posted March 30, 2009 (edited) I never recorded any videos in WoW, but here would be some tips. If you want a really good quality video. You can set your resolution to 1280x720 to get 720p on Youtube. Also use windowed mode if your native is higher than 720p. Shut off all your addons, if possible. Leave the ones you will be using like Grid or Healbot if your a healer. You don't want Recount, QuestHelper, and etc. Since they hog of memory and frames. If you want to do 720p for YouTube your going to need quite a lot of free space on your Hard Drive. I think a 2 minute video in 720p with Fraps is like a few GBs, maybe a few gb if not more. I can't remember it's been awhile since I made a video. Here an example of how you would encode it after you made the video and edit it. . Once its done encoding it should shrink down to a few 100 or so mbs. I would show you my videos on YouTube in 720p, but the content is still under NDA. So I can't release it to the public yet . All my old content is in SD and looks like crap compared to the 8 or so new videos I made in 720p. You could just try it with all your addons on a lower resolution and see what happens, with some lowered graphical settings if needed. Gr4vitas has a ton of addons in his video and it looks pretty smooth. Edited March 30, 2009 by Krazyxazn
Psywar Posted March 30, 2009 Posted March 30, 2009 Nice Video man, thats pretty much what I am going for.. I dont need HD Quality.. but I want to get some thing decent. btw: I will tell you thank you right now for your tanks. Thanks for using Omen lol.. Ever since WotLK came out all my DPS stopped using Omen, and its a pain in the . sometimes. Yeah, the OS+3D is going to be from a Tanking prospective, I am the Drake Tank.. Might not be the best video in the world to watch, might be kind of boring lol.. I cant see the Fissures anyways, because I am colorblind - so I just kind of move around a lot, and have my melee dps call it out. I will try the Spell Detail lowering, if I get this video to turn out right, I will prolly be contacting you guys on video editing n such. y_richard Posted April 22, 2009 Posted April 22, 2009 You can try D3DGear from www.d3dgear.com, its recording performance is better. Check out their ingame desktop, it is very cool.
