tkrow21 Posted March 27, 2009 Posted March 27, 2009 Hey guys, I had problems with my memory, and figured out that only one stick was bad. However, my desktop work is incredibly slow now (with 2GB of RAM as apposed to 4GB), but games and other things tend to run fairly quickly. I checked my memory usage and it was only about 700mb, so I don't think that only having 2GB of RAM is the problem. However, for some reason, taking out a faulty 2GB of RAM has dramatically slowed desktop work. Any ideas as to what's going on? I mean, I've had an old system with Vista and it loaded fine with 1GB of RAM, so I know that 2GB is enough. What figures? tazwegion Posted March 27, 2009 Posted March 27, 2009 Have you got Vista's 'bling' turned off?
Timmy94 Posted March 27, 2009 Posted March 27, 2009 Vista compensates for the lack of RAM and uses the page file more i think. When i had 2GB my usage was at like 700MB, but when i popped in 6GB it rose to double that at like 1.30GB.

Blaise Posted March 28, 2009 Posted March 28, 2009 Aero for a start, and then the other fluff... Go to Computer|Properties and click "Advanced system settings". Under "performance" click "Settings" and turn off the visual effects you can live without.
tkrow21 Posted March 28, 2009 Posted March 28, 2009 Aero would be stressing the GPU, no? Anyway I've done that and it's still considerably slower.
