GTX 260 w/ 896mb???

Recommended Posts

Alright, I'm upgrading my old 8800 GTS to a new card with the upgrade of other components of my computer.

I'm currently looking at getting a GTX 260 w/ 896mb of memory - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx...N82E16814130370

With all the other components of my build, I'm looking at like $700ish already, and I don't want to spend a ton more.

If there is another card that I can get that would be better for a little more money, I would consider it.

Again, I don't want to spend a ton more, but if I can get a better card that I wont have to upgrade so fast and that wont cost me a ton more, GREAT!

Does anyone have any suggestions for me?

Thank you VERY much for any advice you might have.

Don't get that one. It's a 192 core model.

BFG has a nicely priced one - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx...N82E16814143155

or if you want to stick with evga get this one - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx...N82E16814130398

+1

Gotta get the core 216, no matter the company at least get a core 216.

While I WOULD stick with EVGA based on past experiences, but YES 216 is a must (and I would easily go BFG or XFX if i could get one of them in my budget but not the evga 192 (idk exactly what, havent looked at prices today))

Also unlike most here, I have used a both in the same rig (The c216 wasnt out yet when I bought my first 260) and it's a clear win with nice gains for the c216 version.

Alright guys, so which would you go with.

I know EVGA makes pretty good cards (Newegg has the EVGA card listed above at 5/5 eggs w/ 91% of 221 votes being 5 eggs)

I know BFG does also, but this card is listed at 4/5 eggs with 77% of 22 votes being 5 eggs.

I dont want to just focus on ratings, but when I see that many votes with 5 eggs adn the other card not having so many, it just makes me think, you know?

I read the responces on the BFG card. There was one response that had issues with screen res on cold boots.

Another issue was about BFG Support/rebate/RMA

Another was about bad casing on the card itself.

Again, I dont want to not get this card just because of ratings, but its something to consider.

So, who would you go with?

The EVGA card or the BFG card?

honestly any company is good, check out the BFG OC 260, I'm own one and you can see how well it overclocked :), I hear good things about BFG's support too though nothing has gone wrong with any BFG I've owned so I never had a chance to test it yet

The one with the part number 896-P3-1267-AR has a 65nm chip. The one with 896-P3-1257-AR has a 55nm chip. All in all not much difference between the two really. If you have the choice i'd get the cheaper of the two. The die shrink didn't really seem to help all that much.

:withstupid: :thumbs-up:

get whichever gives you the better deal, and if both are the same price get the 65nm
