How Do I Learn to Game?

MINDSCI

Recommended Posts

Hey guys, you beat me to a pulp in my last thread; However, i would greatly benefit from your expertise...

I'm 46 years old and have never played a video game before...

I have Far Cry 2 and Frontlines, Fuel of war.

I was wondering how to get started?

Do you use a Keyboard and Mouse? Do the games come with instructions?

Sorry I squashed so many toes! I won't make excuses, but hubrus got the better part of me, SORRY.

I usually install it and just play... maybe make a pit stop by the game settings to see what the controls are. If the game provides enough challenge I might even read the instructions or pick up a 3rd party strategy guide.

Trial and error... the same way I've learned most things through life.

mouse and keybord playing is best. Game pads/joysticks are a pain in the butt and inaccurate.

you probably don't want to use the arrow keys because you wont have access to important key binds.

like Nate said most people use the wasd cluster. really there isn't much to it you just gota play till you get good.

I'm torn between quoting

and the Spaceballs "Why are we always "preparing"? Just go." I think I'll go with Brian.

Step One: Play the game.

Step Two: Go on. Play it.

Step Three: Hey! Are you still reading this?

Just install it and play it. Learn by doing. I don't understand what kind of instructions you're expecting to get here.

I have to agree with everyone else, read the manual and just play it. I know games now-a-days (sp?) have way more buttons and commands than old school NES, but really the only way to get it down is to do it. That's what I'm learning in Karate (shameless plug, but dang I'm excited about it!).

Ok Verran!... Blah, Blah, Blah... Yes I'm all for "learning by doing" , but you have been being a little blunt. I learned Neurosurgery by "DOING" , but your attitude toward me has been/seemed like 180* right on of indigniant? Let's get over it! :) You are a super dude- Ie. helpful, caring, etc. So am I! :) Can we drop the virulence?- I know I started it! :(

Yeah I guess that happens when you admittedly jerk people's chains for no reason. Imagine that, people don't respond well to that kind of treatment. :O <_<

But quite frankly, I'd respond the same way to anyone who asked this question. This isn't me holding a grudge. It's a VERY strange question. I am truthfully picturing Brian Regan holding a Pop Tarts box and exclaiming "How do I get that goodness in me?!"

If you have specific questions about installing or playing a specific game, by all means, ask them. But just asking how to play games is like asking how to go to sleep. You just do.

Like Nate said: have you started? Have you installed the games? What have you tried so far?

lol I forgot about that pop tart skit. The 3 second microwave directions cracked me up. And if you look they actually do say 3 seconds. In my experience though 3 seconds isn't enough. It's more like 6-7 really.
