Just to add one more to the mix, but this card was recommended to me by another OCC Forum member, as I wanted a Linux compatible card. I have now used two without any problems and they worked straight out of the box, on fresh installs of both Linux and Windows XP. Very pleased with them so far and very cheap.

I personally dislike USB adaptors as they have a history of being slower than internal cards and problematic, but that's just my own experience and I have not tried the one recommended, so it could be fine, if a little expensive.

thank you for the responses

I like this one, alot, for 20 bucks...good deal.. has an antenna, very nice. but does anyone know a model with an expendable antenna, i might just run it into the back yard where you get full bars

im actually having a change of heart, im thinking about spending a little bit of money and getting something more permanent

correct me if im wrong but I think that is coaxial cable that i could purchase to move the antenna further if needed. its fairly expensive but if it works I'll be saving tons by not getting my own internet connection for 50 bucks a mo.

remember, i know they have cox cable around here, i work for att and its the only internet connection in the area besides dial up. so the speeds they have must be good. and there's a fry's up the freeway about 20 min from here that carries this product and they have a good return policy.

anyone have any experience setting this up? tips? tricks? cheaper comparable option?

I went to frys today and bought the wireless linksys pci card with the extandable antenna today.. its seems to be woking great. good thing I bought one with wireless n. someone has n draft lol (thank you)

haha i have a funny trick............... i had a netgear wireless g usb. where i currently live i can only get satellite internet but my neighbor who lives a little over a half mile away from me can get dsl for some stupid reason. well i did some research and came up with a home made idea that i can't believe works. i went to walmart grabbed a good size metal strainer. cut a whole through the back of it and fed the adapter through then i put a balloon over it to waterproof it and then used two gatorade caps with holes in them and a ziptie to keep the adapter straight. stuck it out my window and wallaw got the web off his router from over a half mile away. so u could simply put like a small parabolic shaped metal dish over the antenna and you'd get great signal. then you wouldn't have to get expensive coaxial cable
