BionicSniper Posted February 19, 2009 Posted February 19, 2009 Well I've had this system in my sig for I dont even remember how many years now. My Thinkpad beats it in almost everything even. So I need to throw some new stuff into it. Sadly I'm in college so I dont have any money like I use to, but here is what I am thinking so far. CPU: Phenom II X3 710 RAM: OCZ OCZ2G10664GK The motherboard is what I am having problems with. Its been so long since I've really dug into this that I dont know any of the chipsets out right now. Pretty much I need something that will let me overclock, has a pci slot, and is cheap. I was looking at the Gigabyte MA78G series boards but If there is something cheaper that would be awesome. Possibly a 770 board? It just needs to support the am3 chips.
stewy_fallingup Posted February 19, 2009 Posted February 19, 2009 (edited) My friend got the ram that you want and he hates it. The heatsinks feel like plastic.I got this and its awesome, overclocks amazingly. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx...N82E16820227289 As for mobo i'd get this it has dual BIOS and a lot of copper to keep it cool http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx...N82E16813128379 Edited February 19, 2009 by stewy_fallingup
stewy_fallingup Posted February 19, 2009 Posted February 19, 2009 (edited) Also id go for the black edition, the are so much easier to overclock. here is some combos with the ram http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductCombo...e=10&page=1 CPU, mobo, and ram Edited February 19, 2009 by stewy_fallingup
BionicSniper Posted February 19, 2009 Posted February 19, 2009 yeah Thanks for the tip on that ram I will defiantly get that stuff. It is too bad they don't bundle that ram and the 710 with a decent motherboard.... they have a nice bundle with a quad core phenom but the 710 is significantly faster
stewy_fallingup Posted February 19, 2009 Posted February 19, 2009 agreed. what were you wanting to spend on a board
BionicSniper Posted February 19, 2009 Posted February 19, 2009 under 90 if possible. I will jump up at a better board this summer when i get home and get a job. I did just find this bundle but I dont know anything about this board http://www.newegg.com/Product/ComboDealDet...st=Combo.162059 nvm its cheaper with that gigabyte board which is what i was originally going to get anyway. stewy_fallingup Posted February 19, 2009 Posted February 19, 2009 (edited) this looks nice i think it the upgraded board that my friend has http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx...N82E16813128382 that Asus board is nice too. But i've heard bad things bout the board quality of them Also i don't know if that will support AM3 out of the box but i know this will since it has a 790 chipset http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx...N82E16813130172 When you do jump to a better board go AM3 socket. kind of an obvious statement XD Edited February 19, 2009 by stewy_fallingup
