Trains Hit

WOW

That guy must have sprinted to another car because there was no way he was in the engine (assuming the engine wasn't extremely loud we would have at least heard him yell "$%^&"), if he was then he sure can keep his tongue...

You can see the one of the oncoming train's crew members jump off shortly before the collision, and you can hear the engineer of the right of way train hiss '$#!7' under breath.

Pretty wicked shot! Looks like somebody was off schedule by just that much!

The particular signal system that was in place has a delay on the triggers, presumably in case of false alarms. The right of way train hit the trigger too late for the oncoming train to get a proceed with caution signal earlier and couldn't stop early enough. You can observe this by looking at the signal on the right hand side just before the collision, the signal goes from yellow/red (for proceed at reduced speed) to red/red (for stop) because the oncoming train tripped the trigger by not stopping at its signal and the delay can be seen as the oncoming train is well past its stop point before the right of way train's signal went red/red. Ultimately useless for the engineer as it was too late, but it shows the delay.

As a result, the trains collided.

I must be deaf...

:P

The guy should have sped up to make it to the other set of tracks. Probably would have hit the tail end anyway, but the resulting video would have been far more interesting
Yea, it would have been much cooler to see the end cars sway off of the tracks...

The engineer only knows he needs to stop to attempt to avoid a collision, he doesn't get particulars to see that if he speeds up a little he can at least get his engine through the switch. He gets information that a train that should be waiting for him to pass has failed to and that there's a good possibility for a collision, so he needs to apply the breaks asap. You can hear the brakes being applied right in the beginning and up until the collision. Fully loaded freight trains take quite a bit of time to stop.

Well you dont know how long the train is, so it could have been pretty long and still collided. And then he'd be up in court for accelerating when he should have braked.
