gazdiver Posted February 13, 2009 Posted February 13, 2009 Any advice on Video Upgrade options for a IBM R61, Video Card or whatever would be appreciated. I want to play some games when I am away from home working and the 128Mb shared Ram is not good enough. The R61 is a great Laptop and I do not want to replace it, particularly as the alternatives are not much better and do not have the reliability of the IBM product in the field of hard knocks. Verran Posted February 13, 2009 Posted February 13, 2009 Do you have any experience replacing laptop video cards? It's no small feat.
JerrDogg77 Posted February 13, 2009 Posted February 13, 2009 If you can even upgrade it, which i doubt you can. Each new mobile GPU typically runs hotter, and requires more power then the previous iterations and have different bus configurations. stewy_fallingup Posted February 13, 2009 Posted February 13, 2009 i think you can go to lenovo's website and input your serial and check the warranty there is an option for upgrading. I dont know if this will help or not worth it to check though.
airman Posted February 14, 2009 Posted February 14, 2009 i highly doubt you can just pop out a laptop card and throw in another one. 90% of the time they're integrated, and even the ones that have dedicated memory are technically "integrated", meaning physically a part of the motherboard. so unless you're planning on replacing the motherboard in the laptop, good luck. buy a new one
gazdiver Posted February 14, 2009 Posted February 14, 2009 Thanks guys, it does not sound very promising. I think I had better discus the options with a Technitian when I fly back to the city on R&R.
nVidia_Freak Posted February 14, 2009 Posted February 14, 2009 It won't do you any good, you're rocking the Intel x1300 integrated graphics chipset. Only thing you can do is buy a new laptop if you really want to game on the go.
BionicSniper Posted February 22, 2009 Posted February 22, 2009 thats why you pay for the best graphics option possible when ordering a laptop. You can upgrade the hdd, ram, drives, battery, most of the time the processor, but the gpu is a nogo.
