dday Posted February 8, 2009 Posted February 8, 2009 Hi all. I have a gigabyte p35-ds4 rev2 board, a q6600 proc, 2gb crucial ballistix 1066 ram and a good power supply. I've had my cpu running at 3.2 ghz 356 fsb ram at 1068 seemingly stable. By that I mean right after the overclock it boots up fine and I can play my games and do whatever without issue. I've ran prime 95 for 12 hours without issues. My cpu and board temps are fine. But for some reason randomly after powering down the next time I power up it won't post and I have to clear the cmos. One time it even corrupted my cmos and I had to flash the bios to get it back to normal. I've tried adjusting voltages and such and I am unsure how to proceed. This would also happen at 3ghz 333 fsb ram at 1066. I'm worried that my ram is the cause but would like some insight from more experienced folks. Voltes_5 Posted February 8, 2009 Posted February 8, 2009 (edited) When you say you ran prime95, did you also run memtest to make sure your Ballistix are stable at those fsb's? I know 356 is still low for those sticks, I have 4 1gb of the pc6400, and those Ballistix can really mess up. People can tell you that they avoid those sticks for a reason, lol. Try running a memtest at stock on those sticks first, if possible, rum memtest for each stick seperately and then together. If it passes, do the same at your achieved fsb. ccokeman Posted February 8, 2009 Posted February 8, 2009 I use memtest version 2.1 to check for at least some basic memory stability before booting into windows. dday Posted February 9, 2009 Posted February 9, 2009 Thanks for the ideas. At stock speeds it runs just fine. The only memory test I used was the one from microsoft. I ran it at the overclocked settings and it said it passed as well as it did at stock speeds. I'll give memtest a try and bump up the northbridge a tad if it fails and try again. dday Posted February 9, 2009 Posted February 9, 2009 Ok so I ran a few passes of memtest at both stock and overclocked speed and no errors. The strange thing is that after the overclock it ran great the whole day like it does. I could turn it on and off (leaving it off for a few minutes) and it would post every time. This morning it would not post. Back to stock for the moment. I've realized that the issue seems not so random after all. It seems to happen after the computer sits powered off overnight and will not post the next day. Now to me that just seems really weird. Any ideas? dday Posted February 10, 2009 Posted February 10, 2009 My power supply is a PC power and Cooling turbo-cool 860w. After some google searches about the "cold boot" issues I found some people whe where able to solve there problems by turning off a feature in the bios for "legacy USB storage devices".
