RsT Posted December 26, 2003 Posted December 26, 2003 Hi I bought a mobo and cpu package about a year ago, and finally got around to ditching the crap mobo that came with it (elete ecs crap), the cpu is a P4 2.4 Northwood 512k 533fsb.... So i bought an abit IS7e today and plugged my P4 2.4 cpu into it, and updated my old pc2700 ram to pc3200 4x256mb(PNY DDR 400mhz) .... Now I want to oc my cpu and was hoping for around 3ghz.. So far all I have done is upped the fsb and reached a stable 2.65ghz and set the AGP/PCI to fixed @ 66/33mhz Cpu temp is between 38 and 40c But anything over this the machine will not boot atall Whats the next step ?? Im running standard heatsink + fan, case fan, mobo fan (comes with it) aswell as the fan thats on my agp card.. Cpu temp is between 38 and 40c running it at 2.65ghz Please help
anthony Posted December 26, 2003 Posted December 26, 2003 err. maybe cuz ur temp is too high... 40 is kinda high.. get beter cooling.. like more case fans.. beter cpu cooler... maybe water cooling... aim for 20-30...over 40 isnt too good.... it might overheat when doing stuff... RsT Posted December 26, 2003 Posted December 26, 2003 well 40 is max it gets too it stays around 37/38 and gets to 40 when under load

I hope you meant 60*C because 40 is perfect. (OK not "perfect" but for air cooling that's good) Your fine. Anything under 60*C is good. anthony Posted December 26, 2003 Posted December 26, 2003 really!!?! 60 is ok!?! woaaaa.... thats so crazy... i thought 40 was bad.. sooooo othat means that i can oc more.!... well im at 40 for cpu and 20 for mobo... un oced... on air.... soo... how much could i oc? im not good at ocing either
RsT Posted December 26, 2003 Posted December 26, 2003 cool Glad about that was gettin worried so whats the next step to get me closer to 3ghz ??? I tried taking it above 2.65 on the fsb alone, leaving everything else, but it just won't boot atall...

caffeinejunkie Posted December 26, 2003 Posted December 26, 2003 I don't work with intel (personal preference) but i would think you need to up your cpu voltages but only the lowest increment it will let you. For instance if it is 1.65 go 1.70 and do that till it gets stable. Or thats how it goes with AMD you may want to wait for an intel buff for help also don't use standard hsf go onto this sites reveiws or do some research find a good one you don't want a blown cpu. As on person said it may not boot becasue the bios won't let it due to temperature. Well i guess that could be it but it is unlikely since cpus tend to be cool during a boot since they aren't doing much i do have my bios to not boot if it were 68c ( just incase my watercooling would fail) i guess you could look for that setting. other than that i don't know. Good luck post if you get it higher
TypicalSloan Posted December 26, 2003 Posted December 26, 2003 Have u updated the bios? What kind of voltages are u using? Try raising the vcore slowly till it will boot into windows and run stable. I dont recomend using anything over 1.7 for a p4.

Good luck post if you get it higher bah you beat me to it yea the best way to increase stability is to up the core voltage until it works. but with more voltage comes more heat; so be aware
RsT Posted December 27, 2003 Posted December 27, 2003 Right I now have it running at 2.81ghz i updated the bios to latest version 1.7 I changed cpu voltage to 1.65 mem is upto 2.80 Seems to be holding well, however there is lines across my screen like interference
anthony Posted December 27, 2003 Posted December 27, 2003 yay your almost at 3ghz!!! keep trying lol you will make it!!! its almost in reach!... i wonder if i could hit 3.9?err.. i wont try.. might die.. i mean my comp might die
