Phenom Ii Vs Core?

Recommended Posts

I hear the new Phenom II chips are great.

But are they on par with the newer 45nm C2Q chips?

Also, how do the new 45nm chips compare with the 65nm C2Q's?

I hear they are a little more effiecient, but not so good at overclocking.

Opinions?

I planned on upgrading, or to be more precise, I planned on building a new system to play with, I miss overclocking. So, I did a lot of reading/research on the new chips, I7 and Phenom II. What I gathered is that the new I7 chips are the clear winner, granted the P2 did shine on some benches. As far as comparisons within the Intel chips, if you compared the chips with its own comparable chip, the new I7 chips wins. The one factor that comes into play is that it is more expensive to build on an I7 than you would on a P2, because you would have to build on a ddr3 platform on it, whereas the P2 is backwarkd compatible. You can get away by building on the older ddr2 platform. So its a matter of how much are you willing to spend for that extra power that the I7 can offer. And in the future, you can also put the P2's on a ddr3 board if you want to.
