I don't really think you can see a difference between BMP and JPG. I know it's there but you really have to pick apart the picture to notice it to a degree that it may cause the picture to look diminished, and the file size of JPG compared to BMP is well worth it.

 

that depends... The difference between bmp and jpg using MSPaint is huge, as jpg ends up looking terrible. In Photoshop, when you select higher levels of quality jpg looks great. In MSPaint I would suggest png, in Photoshop jpeg.

I usually use mspaint to screenshot because I don't want to wait for gimp to open so png is the best option for me.
