Iggy Posted December 26, 2003 Posted December 26, 2003 Radeon 9800XT.
dling Posted December 26, 2003 Posted December 26, 2003 i know you said the newest, but ,man! you can get a 9800 pro, for 300 or less, and spend a little on a good h/s. then o/c it till you reach , or exceed, the clock speeds of the 9800xt. then you will still have some money left over for other things. p.s the 9800 128meg. seems to do better then the 256 meg. in most beanchmarks. "good luck."
bigred Posted December 26, 2003 Posted December 26, 2003 I can tell you in order of speed, it's 9800 xt 256mb, 9800 pro 128mb/AIW, 9800 pro 256mb. I own them all, the XT is not worth the $$$, but I've got it and there's not much I can do about it. However, you can't flash a 9800 pro to be an XT, you can't really oc a pro to be an XT, and no you can't just add better cooling. bigred Posted December 26, 2003 Posted December 26, 2003 see the sig? I have enough 9800 pro cards to test this with. even at the same speed the 9800xt is still getting a few fps MORE than the oc'd 9800 pro (though not enough to consider it a win). the 9800xt funs so much cooler it's not funny either. TypicalSloan Posted December 26, 2003 Posted December 26, 2003 (edited) ..........not much though The point is the 9800xt isnt worth the $$$ compared to the 9800pro. Save your money, 2004 is goin to be a big year for new tech. Edited December 26, 2003 by TypicalSloan
bigred Posted December 26, 2003 Posted December 26, 2003 that's very true. But for the $$$ I paid for the XT I couldn't say no at the time (~$280)

I couldn't agree with Red here more. The 9800XT is on a completely different core...whether it's worth the money or not is up to you. I own 2 9800XTs, 2 9800Pros, a 9700Pro, and a 9600Pro ( I like ATi Cards ) The 9800Pro is a good all round card, and well worth the money. You could always get a 9800XT from CompUSA, for a few extra bucks you can allow yourself to upgrade to the newest cards for very little money. That's what I did, I went from a 9500Pro to a 9800Pro in one of my machines for only $50. It's great!
