madu Posted January 25, 2009 Posted January 25, 2009 Hey guys... Although I am not planning to buy a new monitor for about another 6 months, I was wondering what should I go with. With the Nvidia 3D vision, I am very tempted to buy a monitor that supports 120Hz. But seems right now only 22" are available with 120Hz. I am looking for a monitor in the $600~$700 range and I do not know even if 24" 120Hz are available it will fall in that price region. So what would you guys do? Just like 120 Hz TV sets, it makes motion in movies MUCH more fluid and allows you to run Vsync at 120 FPS instead of being capped at 60 FPS. Saying that 120 Hz sets are worse than 60 Hz sets is just like saying you prefer 15 FPS instead of 30 FPS. It just doesn't make any sense! Yeah, smoother motion always looks choppier to me. I've seen more than a few 120 Hz sets and there's no way I'd ever buy a 60 Hz set again. I don't see how someone could see smoother motion and interpret it as "choppy" though, the juddering in regular 60 Hz sets bothers the hell out of me now that I've spent time looking at 120 Hz sets... also this is between 120 and 60 not 30 or 15, a huge difference from 15-30 and not so much above 60 (or at ALL). I don't like watching choppy video (IE: movies on a 60 Hz set). Maybe you do. :shrug: I think he's saying, how many sources are 120Hz? Your computer, for one. Movies are at 24 FPS and don't scale to 60 Hz properly. However, they scale perfectly to 120 Hz. This is why movies look so much smoother on a 120 Hz set versus a 60 Hz set. The 3:2 pulldown just messes things up on 60 Hz sets. I'm not saying that he shouldn't go look at a few but to say they look worse is just totally wrong.
