Folding Rig Questions

I have a few new rigs coming up soon hopefully. I'm curious as to what the power draw might be and more importantly the PPD.

I currently have 1 Windows SMP client (can't get VMware to work right) and 1 GPU2 client on my laptop's 2.8 GHz dual core and 8800M GTX. I also have 1 Windows SMP and 1 GPU2 on my desktop's Q9450 @ 3.6 GHz and 4870 1 GB. Now, each of those rigs has a second video card that can be used, but I need to get the VGA dummy plugs and set it all up. Then I have all the upcoming rigs.

Folding Lineup:

1 x P4 @ 3.4 GHz

1 x P4 @ 3.2 GHz

1 x X9000 @ 2.8 GHz

1 x Q9450 @ 3.6 GHz

1 x Q9450 @ ? GHz

2 x E8400 @ ? GHz

2 x 8800M GTX 512 MB

2 x 4870 512 MB

2 x 4870 1 GB

2 x 4670

If I get that setup fully operational, what do you guys think the PPD would be? Also, how badly would that demolish my electric bill?

PPD you ask? If you get everything properly set up with VMWare (what's not working there?), you should be cracking 20k :)

I must be an idiot, but I can't get VMware Server 2 to startup at all... IDK if I'm not doing something right or what, but none of the shortcuts in the Start menu open anything, and none of the .exe files in Explorer open anything useful. When it installs it asks about ports or something, what do those need to be set to. They default to 8XXX something.

If you use native Linux on the Q9450 with the a2 cores you can get around 3,000 - 3,600 on each SMP so around 7,000 ppd if you can get it to about 3.6Ghz.

Then how would you suggest running the GPU2 clients? The Q9450s go with the 4870s. Should I VMare Windows, lol? I was going to say WINE, but don't only NVidia work with that? While we're on topic with GPU2, do both ATI and NVidia need VGA dummy plugs?

Yes in wine, and only nvidia works right now. I am fixing to try to get it work on one of my rigs as soon as the updates finish. I guess your stuck with Windows and VMware. I am not sure which requires dummy plugs, I had originally though they all did so I put one on all my second cards before I even installed...

I came across that too vmware server is administrered through a web browser so to access you would put in https://yourcomputername:8333/ui/ you will have to add a security exception in firefox to get it to work.

7,000 PPD!?!?! I just got VMware Server 1.0.8 up last night with Ubuntu 8.10 64-bit as the guest on a Vista Ultimate 32-bit host. I finally got FahMon to track the points and it's showing ~1,800 PPD from the first SMP and it's all messed up for the second SMP (showing 1718039% done, lol) and shows no points. Each percentage is taking about 15 minutes to complete... Is that longer than normal? It's running on my Q9450 @ 3.6 GHz, but only showing ~80% CPU usage. Shouldn't I have 100% CPU usage?
