d3bruts1d Posted December 30, 2003 Posted December 30, 2003 Since their seams to be some confusion here... Can you Overclock a Name brand computer? Sometimes. In most situations, a name brand computer will have a majority of the BIOS features locked. This could be due to a custom BIOS, jumpers, or even circuit manipulation. If you go into the BIOS and find that you cannot overclock it there, you can try to use CPUFSB or some of the other programs that allow you to overclock from within Windows. This will not always work, but is worth a try. As it was pointed out, some companies use name brand motherboards. In some situations you can download an original factory BIOS, or even a BIOS that has been created by a 3rd party, and flash this into the system. Best place to look is of course google. BIOS flashing may not always be possible, and if possible, it may not work... also attempting this could void your warranty(ies)... but then, so does overclocking. Also, as pointed out earlier, you could try and replace the motherboard with a new one. The problem here lies with some companies that have their own case form factor, PSU connectors, and other propriety equipment. But as you said, this isn't an option for you. Just a few of the many reasons most people here don't buy a "name brand computer".
