d3bruts1d Posted December 13, 2008 Posted December 13, 2008 (edited) Over the last several weeks, I've noticed that there are actually quite a few people here at OCC that are either using OS X or considering switching to a Mac. Apple use to use the slogan "Think Different" and when you switch from Windows to OS X that is exactly what you have to do. You not only have to learn to use a different operating system, you'll most likely need to find software that will allow you to continue doing what you did with Windows. When I switched, I found this thread @ Neowin.net to be an extremely useful place start. So here is OCC's Definitive Mac OS X Software List. O(V)eGA_l2el) Posted December 13, 2008 Posted December 13, 2008 This is a very useful resource as I am learning how to use Leopard. Most of the time, I use Debian, Fedora Linux distributions, and Windows XP.
d3bruts1d Posted December 13, 2008 Posted December 13, 2008 This is a very useful resource as I am learning how to use Leopard. If you don't mind technical books, I found that Switching to the Mac: The Missing Manual, Leopard Edition was great book to have. Covers settings, keyboard shortcuts, and a lot of other nice things. Kash Posted December 13, 2008 Posted December 13, 2008 Wow D3, I didn't realize that you were that much into Macs. This is an excellent list, I couldn't think of anything to add to it. I would also recommend the Missing Manual, I bought one for Tiger back when I first got my Mac and it's been a tremendous help. suchuwato Posted December 13, 2008 Posted December 13, 2008 Holy moley. That's quite some list... Even though OSX is the work of Satan himself, I applaud you sir Edit: I only really know about multimedia apps for OSX, so it's quite informative You might want to add KillTheRipper next to MacTheRipper though
d3bruts1d Posted December 14, 2008 Posted December 14, 2008 I've updated the list and added a few more things to it and moved a couple of items around. Wow D3, I didn't realize that you were that much into Macs. When I got my Mac, I wasn't expecting much out of it. Heck, I made fun of 'em for years. But it really hooked me, and it is all I use at the house. My old PC (AMD64 3000+) has basically been taken over by the wife. I never use it anymore. The only time I'm on a Windows system these days is when I'm on the XBox 360 or at work, and I'm trying to get management at both jobs to spring for a Mac.
