redtigerdragon Posted December 11, 2008 Posted December 11, 2008 (edited) Ok, so as the title states i want to build a new rig. Probably won't do it till my brithday (feb 17), so I am just testing the waters now. I want something that i won't have to worry about upgrading for a while (fiancee factor big on that one, I'm lucky to be getting one now). I haven't ever overclocked before, so I'm probably just going to stick with air cooling for now. Any advice would be helpful. Oh yeah, and I need it to do movies too. And the basics, but I am assuming a gaming rig can surf the interent and typr a word document. Crazy_Nate Posted December 11, 2008 Posted December 11, 2008 That's pretty far in the future (in terms of technology, and their prices). I'd wait a while until you need to build. However, you can decide how much money you want to spend on each component (and later choose components / modify your pricing), ie : PSU: $100 Case: $100 Ram: $150 Motherboard: $150 Hard drive: $100 CPU: $200 Graphics card: $200 For a budget of roughly $1000
redtigerdragon Posted December 11, 2008 Posted December 11, 2008 I know it is a long way off, but i may get it sooner than that. I was just wondering as of now, with the same budget, what you would recomend.
redtigerdragon Posted December 11, 2008 Posted December 11, 2008 oh, just an edit: I already have hard drives and optical drives, as well as a 1000w PSU (I know it was overkill, but it had blue leds and was on sale, and the salesman had the dreamiest eyes...i mean...uh ). I also have an old case, but probably will still get a new one. I'm thinking of around 80 for the case ( i usually get apevia cases, but again haven't overclocked so i haven't been needing good airflow. Also, i have a thing for blue, so it would be preferable but not necessary).

Deals come and go on a daily basis. If you want a rough build: E8600 P45 2x2 DDRII 1066 SATA II Harddrive of your choice Solid PSU (not sure which one you got "talked" into buying) ~GTX260 or HD4870 (or depending on the budget, a HD4850) Nice case (I'd look at the Antec 900) Beyond that, I can't help you any more. You really need to look at components when you're building. Sit down and read the reviews (A lot can change in 2 months - we should have a bunch of new processors out by then, and probably new graphics cards as well) Even if you're not overclocking, better airflow will reduce all the temperatures in your case...prolonging the life of your components... devit Posted December 12, 2008 Posted December 12, 2008 a good case...your choice q6600 p45 4x2ddrII 800/1066 Seagate Hard Drive 500 or more Corsair 750w HD4850 .... and i think it`s enough..
goober Posted December 12, 2008 Posted December 12, 2008 I agree with devit, that'd be a nice build. Here's a like to guru3d.com they have some good articles on christmas computer building for low end, mid end, and high end computers. http://www.guru3d.com/article/pc-buyer-guide-december-2008/ My suggestion would be to go all out on the cpu and video card. The i7 920 cpu is around $300. From what I've read, it seems to outperform some of the intel's extreme 1k cheaps as well. A 9800gtx+ can be purchased for around $200. Leaves you with $500 left for case, motherboard, psu, and ram.
redtigerdragon Posted December 12, 2008 Posted December 12, 2008 See I was thinking about getting the q6600, b/c I know that it is a fav. But the new i7's came out and they rock, plus the phenom 2's are coming out that are faster than the core 2's. And the graphics card is another thing. Should i go with the 4850, or is a 9800/8800 going to be ebough to game. Right now i play the newest games on lowest setting to be able to handle it, so really anything would be an upgrade. But i want to semi-future proof the new build. Also, does anyone know when the next gen graphics cards are going to be released? If soon, I may just wait to see what they are all about. wolzen Posted January 1, 2009 Posted January 1, 2009 (edited) psu: real power 750watt refurb case: stacker 810 refurb ram: ddr2 1200mhz good luck on finding that lol.... it exists though so there is a chance motherboard: biostar i45 harddrive:500gb cpu:e8400 heatsink:sunbeam core contact thingy graphics card:asus 4870 phenom 2 build...lol , but core2 is better btw the coolermaster site sells refurbished stuff. it's pretty crazy since they cost loads usually and they're so cheap and they work too Edited January 1, 2009 by wolzen
