Speaker Design

Anyone good with designing speaker cabinets? I'm looking at these drivers: http://www.eminence.com/proaudio_speaker_d...mp;SUB_CAT_ID=2 and I haven't selected a crossover or HF driver and horn flare combo yet. I know the info is out there, but I can't find it :(

Basically I need plans for a ported enclosure, tuned to this speaker... the spec is here: http://www.eminence.com/pdf/cab-delta-15a.pdf

There is a lot of excellent information in this book.

These Germans have an excellent software package that might get you what you need.

http://www.linearteam.dk/

Spend some time in their English language forum for tips.

I'm using WinISD, but Eminance doesn't give all the specs in needs methinks as the Eminance PDF says the box should be 82-161.4 liters/2.9-5.7cu.ft and the app says 666 liters...

I pay more attention to the xmas spec and build to suit from there....

I agree with Ex on the Partsexpress stuff...

The book is a good read and they have all the stuff you'll ever need...

I built cabinets for my shop with some of their Dayton 12in woofers...

you talk about bass reflex...

you stand in the cross hatch at 1/2 volume and it thumps your chest pretty good...

and this is only with 75watts rms per channel in a room thats 24ft x 60ft

do they say if that box volume is for ported or sealed use? I would stick to the standard "perfect box" ratios. i cant remember them at the moment but try the ported and non ported designs in ISD for both volumes. pick the better one i would suppose and try building a basic box. 1" MDF or plywood isn't that expensive there is it? and take the inferior one and stick a port in it and sell it to someone that doesn't know any better :)

What are you building that you feel you need to use a guitar speaker to meet the needs of the system?

In general I'd never use a driver like that in any general-purpose setup...

now if you WERE using if for guitar purposes, such as bass or something, i would check out a "Tapped horn" design.....hard to get right but extends bass into unfathomable volumes and lowness.

You mean "tapered horn" I believe. They are exceedingly hard to build and even I wouldn't attempt one without a full workshop and a hell of a lot of free time.

Even if you pull it off a better driver in a more simple enclosure could easily outperform it anyway.

That's because I totally pasted the wrong URL in...

I'm looking at this driver: http://www.eminence.com/proaudio_speaker_d...mp;SUB_CAT_ID=1

But I'm open to suggestions. Has to be around the

what are you planning to drive these speakers with....

if you post up your pre-amp/amp it would be better to match a speaker to the range you amp could handle....

the one you listed will take a pretty stout amp to properly drive it without causing damage to the speaker itself...

most of the time I will go with lower wattage speakers and over drive them a tad....this is more ideal as long as you dont clip them....keeping them from clipping and driving them with sufficient power still delivers solid sound...

the ones i put in my shop were only rated at 125watts rms each...

here is a 15in sub with a good low frequency and will hit rather hard for bass...with the low 20-125hz and a Xmax of 10 make it very solid...

http://www.parts-express.com/pe/showdetl.c...tnumber=295-560

now if I was going to go a little cheaper I would use this driver/sub and just slightly enlarge the enclosure and use a bigger port or ever 2 smaller 2in ports...this will also hit hard in a larger room with the right enclosure and is pretty cheap....

these are the 12in woofers i used in my shop and they hit very hard considering the wider frequency response....
