neithx Posted December 4, 2008 Posted December 4, 2008 So I'm building a complete new system, first one in a few years. It will be primarily for gaming, and will be based on an overclocked E8600 dual core cpu to hopefully 4ghz +, and Radeon HD 4870X2. Which DDR2 motherboard would give me the best performance, fully utilizing the power of these 2 high end components? Price is a consideration, but I want the best for this computer and will spend what is required. I've been reading around for a couple weeks and have chosen a selection of Asus boards that might do the job. These include: Asus Rampage Formula X48 Asus Maximus II formula P45 Asus P5Q Deluxe P45 Asus P5Q Premium P45 What do you recommend? X48 or P45? Would you suggest one of the boards I've listed, or can you tell me of an alternative that might be better?

HITandRUN Posted December 4, 2008 Posted December 4, 2008 (edited) Since I'm not a ASUS guy and It looks like you have some money to spend I would recommend to go with a Foxconn BlackOps or a X48 Gigabyte board if you decide to go DDR3. If not I have seen some good results from the GA-EP45-EXTREME. Also I have a E8600 in my for sale section if you are interested. Im with "Hit and Run" , Ever since my fist build with Gigabyte, Ive been a fan. Good pricing and excellent performance with a Barrel full of Tuning Adjustments in the Bios. Ive since built two more systems for mah friends using Gigabyte Mobos. Asus is great too. I just like the GA design and options. Sorry if you dont get too much outta this post.
