Queenz Posted November 29, 2008 Posted November 29, 2008 As you know in my other thread that I jost lost my Real Estate job not to long ago. I've been searching for jobs and no luck. Over the past couple of weeks I've had to atleast sent in over 100 job applications with my Resume, and still no luck. I even went "cold job searching" by going into random businesses and asking if they had any available positions, and still no luck with that. I've applied online and in the stores, called places and everything. I really don't know what to do. I haven't given up yet but I need some hope . It's even harder cause all of the jobs I ever had were thrown at me, I never went looking for them. To think I live in a heavily business populated area that it would be easier to find a job in, but it isn't. With the way the economy is, I start to think to myself how the hell am I going to get a job when there are millions of other people out there in the same position as me looking for a job too, not to mention places aren't doing so well right now so finding a job would be harder. Although I'm still glad that I live with my parents. This would be alot harder if I was out on my own with a family to raise. Kamikaze_Badger Posted November 29, 2008 Posted November 29, 2008 Armed forces are hiring. Find out what you want to do, contact the relevant recruiter, and head on down to MEPS.
LoArmistead Posted November 29, 2008 Posted November 29, 2008 I think it's about time you get in the soup line... Or hang out and pick up one of the 2.5 million jobs our next president is going to "create."
Hyper Threaded Posted November 29, 2008 Posted November 29, 2008 Ask around, you'd be surprised who can find you a job. My hair dresser found my current job, she does my boss's and my hair. She told him I was looking, then a few weeks later the whole process started. Not just some supermarket job either, it's a proper IT job with a good career path. The whole idea is, no matter how stupid it sounds, ask them. Worst thing that can happen is, they won't be able to help you. suchuwato Posted November 29, 2008 Posted November 29, 2008 I did some volunteer work before I started university, and a while after I finished, somebody who worked there (but was employed by another company) got me a contract for some design work on a new project. Don't be afraid to ask people, or at least tell them you're interested in work, because they're (on the whole) more generous and thoughtful than you'd think
Silverfox Posted November 29, 2008 Posted November 29, 2008 Or hang out and pick up one of the 2.5 million jobs our next president is going to "create." Boo-hoo. Still bitter? The majority chose him As for jobs, well, unless you are considered "skilled", you are going to struggle to find anything right now. Perhaps temping in the xmas rush, but otherwise, all the best. OwinC Posted November 29, 2008 Posted November 29, 2008 Try the local dry cleaners. They could use extra help for deliveries and press operators, and counter help. That is what I did after I lost my first job. Did that for 4 years.
MINDSCI Posted November 29, 2008 Posted November 29, 2008 Sorry to hear! I agree with Suchuwato: I have done a lot of volunteer work myself... Many of the people that do volunteer work have or had some of the most fruitful careers- they are well connected. They are also tend to be super compassionate and caring, and there is a very good chance someone you meet volunteering would take a very genuine interest in your plight. ekiM Posted November 29, 2008 Posted November 29, 2008 Why not try some of the contacts you formed through your previous employment?
LoArmistead Posted November 29, 2008 Posted November 29, 2008 Boo-hoo. Still bitter? The majority chose him I'm not bitter at all. I'm genuinely excited! I mean, hell, why didn't someone think of this sooner!? If people are unemployed like my man Queenz here, just create jobs for them! It's so simple! just stick your hand into your rectum, and then... and then pull it out, and voila! 2.5 million government jobs that will immediately kick the economy into high gear and put us back on the road to prosperity. And it's all obviously going to work because, after all, the majority elected him, so they must be right. Right? The majority chose Jimmy Carter, too .
