stueck9356 Posted November 28, 2008 Posted November 28, 2008 I was looking around at the black Friday deals, and found a Q9550 for $309 on the egg to replace my Q6600. I thought about how nice it would be to have an even faster CPU, but then caught myself thinking "300$.. is it really worth 300$ to upgrade just for another .43ghz?" So I ask you.. would you upgrade? No! Just overclock the Q6600 if you haven't already? Cheers Paul

ir_cow Posted November 29, 2008 Posted November 29, 2008 unless you're doing rending work than maybe, it would shave 30-40seconds off just because of the large cache but otherwise no way. and since you haven't OCed just changed the fsb from 1066 to 1333 and get a clear 400mhz gain. ALL Q6600 should be able to handle that.
Rodneyho Posted November 29, 2008 Posted November 29, 2008 It also depends a lot on the Mobo you using. For you NO. Just OC as previously stated. If your board supports DDR3 1333 Ram you can cook dinner on that Q6600 before it will be able to compete with even the slightest tinkering with your q9550. But with your DDR2 ram that q9550 is NOT going to see $300 worth of speed bonus to you.
Xtreme Gamer Posted November 29, 2008 Posted November 29, 2008 Just get the q6600 and get a cpu cooler then. Make sure the q6600 has go stepping, it should do. Many ppl overclock the go stepping q6600 to around 3.5-3.9 ghz on air :thumbs-up:

I must suck to only have 3.0 out of my G0 Q6700
stueck9356 Posted November 30, 2008 Posted November 30, 2008 (edited) same.. I have the noctua cooler, which is even better than the tuniq tower (beats it by like 5-7 Edited November 30, 2008 by Snugg
g0tanks Posted November 30, 2008 Posted November 30, 2008 (edited) I have a Q6600 B3, I can get it to 3,2 with 1.33v. It gets really hot though, I can only test with IntelBurnTest when it's cold weather (65 degrees).
