SpeedEuphoria Posted November 23, 2008 Posted November 23, 2008 (edited) Well I have been running the setup in my sig for a couple years now. I have been thinking about upgrading and looked around a couple months ago. Still my current rig does everything I need. Basically I could use more ram/hard drive/video card and a new monitor. I still can do with my monitor/video card for now as I have extras to build with to give the current setup to someone, also have an extra PSU and copy of XP. Anyway last I knew for a budget system that will beat my current system these are some things I was looking at: E2180 or E5200?? similar or slightly better thats worth the $$$ 4gig of ram, mem is cheap(still will be using XP but want availability to go to Vista or the next OS), thought there was some good/cheap G.Skill? not interested in timings just speed and size, like this: G Skill 2x2GB 1066 Gigabyte, DFI Blood Iron, MSI or even Biostar Mobo(P35 or better), wanted raid for my Raptors, not sure?Maybe this: Gigabyte EP45 UD3R Thinking about this HD for storage: Hitachi 1TB Planning on this heatsink: Xigamatek Also was thinking about getting a Sata DVD burner since mine are older, not sure if they are much faster: Samsung 22x I also think about getting a new case to put the current stuff into, any cheap options? Thanks in advance Edited November 23, 2008 by SpeedEuphoria
ocmooz Posted November 23, 2008 Posted November 23, 2008 (edited) The cooler, Gskill mem, and DVD are good, but I don't know about the mobo. Are you sure you don't want to get a Seagate HDD? I believe they're more reliable. That DVD burner should be faster than what you have. I have one and it seems to be fine. My experience with optical drives lately has been that they all perform about equally and all have the same driver based problems. What you want is reliability in a DVD drive and both Samsung and Sony will give you that. Good luck with the upgrade! :thumbs-up: Edited November 23, 2008 by ocmooz
