ir_cow Posted November 21, 2008 Posted November 21, 2008 the 4830! alot less wattage, and perform very close to the 4850 which truly outperforms the 3870 in newer games the cost of the 4830 is so close to the 50 you might as well spend the extra $20 or wait a bit and wait for a larger rebate. tkrow21 Posted November 21, 2008 Posted November 21, 2008 (edited) Less power consumption on the 4830 and it performs slightly better. Edited November 21, 2008 by Krow
ir_cow Posted November 21, 2008 Posted November 21, 2008 i think double the streams is a little more than "slightly" better
tkrow21 Posted November 21, 2008 Posted November 21, 2008 If you look at stream processors when purchasing a video card then there's no hope for you since you have been here for over four years.
ir_cow Posted November 21, 2008 Posted November 21, 2008 i don't but when it comes down to kinda the same core technology the more the better in many cases. use to be pixel pipe line now its streams and who knows what will be next. tkrow21 Posted November 21, 2008 Posted November 21, 2008 Yeah, because the 3xxx series and 4xxx series feature the same core technology. LOL.
IVIYTH0S Posted November 22, 2008 Posted November 22, 2008 the 4830 is great little powerhouse for the money. I'd get that over the 3870 if i were you
trust2112 Posted March 3, 2009 Posted March 3, 2009 The 4830 is a very capable card, I can overclock it to run with the 4850's and probably some 4870's. I picked mine up at the end of January 09, and paid less the 100 for it. It's taking everything I can throw at it, and still keep kicking. They say a picture is worth a 1000's words, so here, see for yourself... http://www.techpowerup.com/gpuz/2a62p/ http://valid.canardpc.com/show_oc.php?id=519318
Kingfisher Posted March 3, 2009 Posted March 3, 2009 I have used both cards and I would have to pick the 4830. Though they both are fine unless you are running high res.
malmsteenisgod Posted March 3, 2009 Posted March 3, 2009 There's an article on the front page of OCC that says that there may be a price cut soon for the 4850's and 4870's. Maybe wait for those prices to drop and grab one of them instead?
