easy answer?

It sucks...and the hoops you have to jump thru to get it running right with all the DRM crap added only makes it worse...

I got a full copy bundled with my Q6700 and it wont even run...fails installs on several rig and when it does install gives me grief....

Funny, I grabbed a used collector's edition and havent had a minutes trouble on my main rig (considering the beta had major issues early on with XP x64 that was a plus), laptop, or other PCs.

With that said it just doesn't feel that fun compared to many other games. Honestly I didn't REALLY like 2K4 that much either, but UT3 feels like less fun more pretty. Maybe that's the problem, they kept the great game play from before and in the end it feels old compared to all the other things out there to play today. If that is the case I could see myself playing 2K4 to have more players (many people are still barely scraping by with PCs that can hardly play it after all).

I've got the $20 newegg edition (e.g. normal) on my X86-64 machine without issue.

Installed from the game DVD without a problem, also installed all patches without a problem.

The total install process probably took under an hour including patch download time. If I had the patches available beforehand it probably would've taken a half hour.

I haven't had any hickups with the game yet. It runs stable for hours on my 47% cpu overclock (see sig).

Additionally it runs fine on lowest settings on my HTPC, a p4 with ati x1600 and 3 gigs ram.

It was pretty trouble free of me, but my issue was I really didnt like what they did to Onslaught. That, and the same maps that are played over and over again just werent like the ones in UT2K4.

I have to disagree with the bolded. I've been hitting up the UT series since Unreal in '98(Christmas gift that was also my very first PC game ) and I've gotta say that UT3 was a major leap in the wrong direction. Sure the graphics were nice but the game was slow. Not performance wise or anything but the pace of the game was really slow compared to UT99 or 2k4. The whole grittiness of UT3 just doesn't work right for the Unreal series(IMO). Even when you have tons of stuff going on screen(6+ people trying to kill each other) all the miscellaneous effects throw in just distract from what you're trying to do instead of add to it. Blinding Jello-blood fountain is neither needed nor wanted when fighting in close quarters. Oh and some of the lighting effects made me want to kill people IRL. <_<

Good game? Sure but I wouldn't uninstall UT2k4(Pinnacle of multiplayer FPS games, in my opinion) for it.

Can't say my hopes for UT4 are very high, either. Console launch first THEN a PC port? GG Epic games...GG...

Morpheus 3 anyone?

I agree about the maps. "Suspense" from the UT3 demo gets a lot of play time. Personally I think that map sucks.

Play on the hedsteem.com vctf server if you want new maps
