kidquick Posted November 19, 2008 Posted November 19, 2008 I am looking at an upgrade this Christmas....and need a little input...I either want to trade up my [email protected] for a q6600 (mb doesn't support 45nm).....or trade in the 2x8800gs for 1 gtx260.... I am running a 650i and don't really want to go with a new mobo...so those two options are about the best upgrades I can do....and I will be oc'in the q6600.. Thanks for the input.. I use my computer mostly for gaming...cod4/5...
ARandomOWL Posted November 19, 2008 Posted November 19, 2008 prolly best to upgrade the GPU. ATI prolly has the best performance & price ATM. I would say a 4870 would be a good choice, but GTX260 is also.
Queenz Posted November 19, 2008 Posted November 19, 2008 GTX260 Black Edition FTMFW!!!
kidquick Posted November 19, 2008 Posted November 19, 2008 Really....I would have thought the processor would be the way to go first...I don't want to go ATI b/c I plan on going back to sli in the future....
kingdingeling Posted November 19, 2008 Posted November 19, 2008 I'd go for the CPU actually! That will otherwise be a bottleneck for a single GTX260 Core216!
xly15 Posted November 19, 2008 Posted November 19, 2008 The CPU first. King has a very good point. That E2180 would be a bottleneck for the GTX260. Get the Q6600 first then get the gpu.
kingdingeling Posted November 19, 2008 Posted November 19, 2008 Also, an overclocked SLI 8800GS system will not be that far behind a GTX260 IMO.
kidquick Posted November 19, 2008 Posted November 19, 2008 (edited) ok...looks like the q6600 will be the answer...i'll try for the gtx260 in march(or maybe a 280 if the price is right!)
