Was riding with friends tonight and one of them who has a 2009 CBR600RR had a little issue. At 110 mph...

AKA driving at stupid speeds on public roads and something bad happened. Meh.
AKA cruising around and him being the only one to go over 100 because he spotted a fun looking on ramp. Total time over 90 mph? Probably 3 seconds.

Nobody here really rides like crazy because there's a track 45 minutes away.

Implying it's a free track though :P

I actually couldn't tell the damage at first, he could mess the other side and it sorta of works with the color scheme. Then again, my bike is a half faired model so maybe that's why it doesn't look off to me

How'd the kickstand actually contact the ground if he was going straight and not leaning left? I was waiting to hear a horror story of the bike shutting down or something since I believe both my bikes have had a killswitch for when the kickstand's out.

Implying single men in their 20s with decent jobs can't afford to spend a day at the track versus paying a speeding ticket.

Yeah, we did a good job at patching it up. We used paperclips as twist ties in the rivet holes and tape to strengthen the whole thing and to brace it to the other fairings.

It didn't hit the ground, it just flicked open but since it had no spring, the air pressure from the speed caused it to hit the fairing and crack it. He would have been better off if he had the killswitch since all the bike would do is slow down. His didn't engage because he had an issue with it where it'd shut the bike off with the kickstand up and let it run with it down so he just took the sensor off.

Implying single men in their 20s wouldn't take their changes simply outrunning the popo  (and how do I know if he has a decent job or not, I still see a broken fairing there :P )

As a man who can appreciate a ghetto yet effective solution to something,

It'd be good *in theory* for the kickstand killswitch to engage but I feel like if he was really pinning the throttle and the ignition cut sharply then it might aggressively engine brake and then cause the rear wheel to possibly lock up. Ya know?

I'm still trying to visualize how his kickstand could have reached any kind of fairing unless it was improperly bolted down (letting it flail towards the fairing or other local components)

You can tell he has a good job because you see a shiny bike that costs over $10,000 new paired with a $600 jacket.

CBR600RRs don't engine brake very hard and it definitely wouldn't send him flying. The rear wheel will not lock up. I've had mine die on me at high revs and it just coasts.

Its an aftermarket kickstand, so idk.

I'm not sure this makes any difference at all.

Yeah but how do I know he didn't get the bike through a stellar deal used? I certainly wouldn't have bought my bike new, but used? I got it for less than half it's new value, same with the jacket :P

I'm just saying though, it's a factor, maybe he panicked or something it's just one more factor working against him, despite you saying it wouldn't lock up it may still suddenly dive forward from its hard pull to maximum engine braking (which, light or not would FEEL heavier due to going from WOT to NOT lol)

Well there's your problem!

Yeah right, I feel like trying that one out the next time I get pulled over for speeding

Just clarifying we're not the dicks maxing our bikes out on the street. Just a quick pull every now and then.

Stop playing devil's advocate lol.

:teehee:

Back on topic: I bought a front and rear tire and had the rear one mounted. $160 total! Sweet deal! Balanced, too!

Man you gotta get to know somebody with a mounting and balancing machine, it's disgusting what they charge for that stuff. I too have been stung before when I got tires I already owned mounted and balanced on my nin250!

Yup, went to go buy tires off him last night and he offered to put it on for me. I was a bit reluctant but then he showed me his garage. A dozen race bikes that are in for service, proper mounting and balancing machines just like at a tire shop, piles of parts, tires, tools, etc, all neatly organized. Figured "why the fuck not" and had him do it for me.

I also rode home with the old rear tire and the new front around me like the Michelin man. People were amused.

So he mounted them for free and that's what you paid for the tires??

Lol yeah, I plan to michelin man up to north jersey when ever my stock tires decide to run out of tread. There's a guy off my forum that will mount and balance tires for like $30 I think. Frickin' steal compared to the $160-$170ish I paid to mount my Ninja's :yucky:
