privateapples Posted November 13, 2008 Posted November 13, 2008 Hey guys Im having a hassle trying to find the best MicroAtx for me. There are a ton of companies that I dont know muchabout like DTF , FOXCONN, ELITE, ASRock..... and I know to trust you guy on this kind of topic. Anyway I'll lookig for a MircoATX for an HTPC I want to to hold at least 3 SATAports at leats 4GBs of mem and onboard video and take a LGA 775cpu. Everywhere I look has something different and ASrock comes up alot. Any ideas? Thanks!

privateapples Posted November 13, 2008 Posted November 13, 2008 Do you think I should go with a better CPU than a Pentium D? Im going to use it for light gaming and HEAVY HTPC use. I was thinking about going with on of the new Core 2's but i dont want to break the bank... I already have a Pentium D at home. Let me know what you think
privateapples Posted November 13, 2008 Posted November 13, 2008 Just looked into that DFI Board... the PCI 2.0 slots run at x8 MAX and not x16. Huge Bummer. Any other ideas?
ocmooz Posted November 13, 2008 Posted November 13, 2008 How about: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx...N82E16813186154 and when you're ready to upgrade: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx...N82E16819115132
troy5061 Posted November 13, 2008 Posted November 13, 2008 (edited) I would go with the E7300 metioned above or pickup an E8400 E0. http://www.tankguys.com/processors/intel-p...o-stepping.html I can't find any mATX boards that support X16 X16, matter of fact thats the only recent mATX board ive seen that has two PCIe slots. One of the drawbacks to a Matx I guess. Plus if your putting this in a tiny case I wouldn't recommend dual gpus unless your sticking it in your freezer. Praz Posted November 13, 2008 Posted November 13, 2008 I want to to hold at least 3 SATAports at leats 4GBs of mem and onboard video and take a LGA 775cpu. Not sure why you would be looking at the DFI board to begin with as it has no onboard video. The x8 PCI-E speed makes little to no difference anyway. troy5061 Posted November 13, 2008 Posted November 13, 2008 Yea the 8x 8x wont bother him unless hes running two video cards. It will run one at 16x. I missed the part about the onboard video, but for the price of a dedicated gpu these days I would do without onboard anyway. Just my opinion. kingdingeling Posted November 13, 2008 Posted November 13, 2008 Just looked into that DFI Board... the PCI 2.0 slots run at x8 MAX and not x16. Huge Bummer. Any other ideas? No bummer at all. Also, why the hell would someone in their right mind even consider a Pentium D for an HTPC? Those things run HOT (!!!), definitely pick up some small C2D!! Praz Posted November 13, 2008 Posted November 13, 2008 Yea the 8x 8x wont bother him unless hes running two video cards. It will run one at 16x. The board is hardwired at x8 x8. So even a single card will run at that speed. But to repeat what I mentioned above the x8 speed will be of little consequence. privateapples Posted November 13, 2008 Posted November 13, 2008 That Foxconn sounds perfect / So does that Core 2 / Also i really dont need the onboard video I was just asking for just in case I'd ever need in if my video card went bad. I curently have an HD 3650 thats runs at PCIe 2.0 .. was hoping to get the best from it but I guess that'll have to wait. I'm going to pick up that FOXCONN & E7300 now ... Thanks for the help guys! Also your totally right about the 2 gpus in an HTPC ... I was getting ahead of myself... First I just wanted a silent dvd/blu ray playing pc and now im trying to make it a gaming rig ... haha ... to bad theres a lack of awesome PC games at the moment or I just might have done it. Thanks again guys!
