IVIYTH0S Posted November 13, 2008 Posted November 13, 2008 ok so i just got the 8.11 drivers downloaded and was all excited because lately I've been having alot of issues with the current ones. So before I run driver cleaner, I figured it would be best to uninstall the ati software from the "Programs and Features" section of the control panel. It began with uninstalling the AVIVO 64 stuff, CCC and then finally the display driver. The driver uninstalled so the screen went black (which it always does when installing/uninstalling drivers) but this time it didn't default, there was nothing. Just went to No Signal, so I figured "Ok this is fine, I'll just restart windows and it'll run the default driver when it loads back in." well I went and tried that and the screen just does not respond at all. It's not the monitor since I just plugged my laptop into it with a vga cable and it displayed fine. I even tried a spare dvi cable I have but the computer will not display any video. (I know it still loads windows because the 4870's fan speed settings from RivaTuner become active if I wait a few minutes. What do I do? Is my card dead? I thought it was just a driver issue but it doesn't even work outside of windows at all. I can't access my bios or anything. Any advice is highly appreciated, Asus may be getting a telephone call tomorrow.
Bubbaxm2 Posted November 13, 2008 Posted November 13, 2008 Do you have your monitor hooked up via a dvi cable? I have had this issue once before and had to hook it with the d-sub cable to get it to come back and reinstall the drivers. IVIYTH0S Posted November 13, 2008 Posted November 13, 2008 damn my 4870 didn't come with one I guess. i can't find one anywhere, i guess I'll have to borrow one from my friend in the morning. (it does have a hdmi adapter though just not a vga-dvi adapter) <_<
pkilway Posted November 14, 2008 Posted November 14, 2008 Did you try Windows Safe Mode?
slngsht Posted November 14, 2008 Posted November 14, 2008 no video even on POST?
IVIYTH0S Posted November 14, 2008 Posted November 14, 2008 Did you try Windows Safe Mode? can't no video even on POST? nope no video anytime, it did come on once more with a complete gray screen after I just restarted it but I think that because I had both the vga from my laptop and the dvi from the computer in the monitor at one time so it was confused. I think through some weird act of nature the card is dead, the monitor is fine. i have my laptop running as my desktop now so yeah. Rokkaholik Posted November 14, 2008 Posted November 14, 2008 I never use their uninstall utility. I use their program called CatUnilstaller. It removes ALL ATI related drivers from the system http://support.ati.com/ics/support/default...questionID=1447

Rokkaholik Posted November 15, 2008 Posted November 15, 2008 Is your board equipped with any integrated video? Did you try plugging the card into a different PCI-E Slot
IVIYTH0S Posted November 15, 2008 Posted November 15, 2008 Is your board equipped with any integrated video? Did you try plugging the card into a different PCI-E Slot no but I finally got a dvi-vga adapter and it's working now. I just installed the 8.11 drivers. two problems remain I STILL can't overclock the card and more importantly, it only works if I use the adapter. It will not run if I run it using the DVI cable
IVIYTH0S Posted November 15, 2008 Posted November 15, 2008 I'm thinking about RMA'n it since it seems to have some sorta issue. I could act stupid and say that it doesn't work anymore. I don't want to run through the vga adapter, the contrast ratio doesn't look as good. And I miss my overclocks, that's what made this a formidable card. IVIYTH0S Posted November 18, 2008 Posted November 18, 2008 this is annoying, now windows is only letting me run standard definition resolutions. as if things couldn't get any worse
