First Amd Build

Recommended Posts

Mate if you have 1.1k to spend, don't go AMD, and don't go with a crap PSU! Look at this build:

Intel Core 2 Quad Q9550 Combo deal with a Thermaltake M9 - 360$ after 15$ MIR

DFI Lanparty DK P45 T2RS Plus - 170$

G.Skill 2x2GB PC2-1066 - 70$

EVGA GTX260 Core216 - 270$ after 20$ MIR

PC Power & Cooling Silencer 610W - 89$ after 25$ MIR

Xigmatek HDT-S1283 CPU Cooler - 22$ after 10$ MIR

= 981$

[Edit] Scratch this, didn't see the Australia post. Smallsn, the Australian dollar is much weaker though.

ROFLMAO. *Is it only about the looks*

Wells, I shall search it up. And check it out.

http://www.msy.com.au/Parts/PARTS.pdf (Is the place I'm buying from. Remember that I'm from Australia. And their currency is unstable at the moment.)

Btw is it this MB?

Yes that is the board. I also reviewed it here at OCC.

Another 780a SLI board that is great is the Foxconn Destroyer we just looked at and overclocked well.

If you are on a limited buget but still want a great board for pushing the limits like Damian said the 790GX board have the newer Southbridge and overclock very well. We took a look at the Foxconn A7DA-S a few weeks ago and is a surpurb board. For the price it is a winner.

If you want to go AMD look at these options but I really would wait to see what is released soon ;)

better to skimp on RAM now and get better later then skimp on the MB. From my experience if you have to skimp do it on the CPU, RAM, GPU in that order. these are all simple drop in upgrades. a good example would be i bought a e8400 since i couldn't afford a q9550 but will upgrade later with the hardest part being seating the cooling block again. The things you don't skimp on are the MB, CASE, and the PSU. Reasons being the neither the case not the MB is a simple upgrade (have to take everything out) and a cheap PSU can lead to all sorts of hardware issues that can be VERY hard to trace back to the PSU. It can also fry the whole durn computer.

Wait and see what AMD's new 45nm have to offer.

AMD released the server version of it's 45-nm processors today. I just also found out the 45-nm 'Deneb' desktop version will launch at CES in January. So now we have a firm time frame for the release of what they're calling the Phenom II X4 if you want to wait until January.

You're wasting your money on AMD! The performance per $$$ is just much better with Intel right now (no Im not a fanboy, I've had a load of AMD systems when they were better aka A64 days = I buy what's best for my money!), and the Phenoms overclock really badly! You'll have more fun with an Intel system.
