Semi-newbie Needs Some Help

I read the article on the mobo, but don't really understand much about what makes it better. Also, when will it likely come out, and does anyone know how much it would cost?

On the videocard choice, I noticed that there was a 1 gig 4870 card so I looked at that. Still being split down the middle, I went and did a search for some benchmark reviews, and from what I found it looks like the new 216 core 260 did a tad bit better most of the time. The other thing I noticed was that it supports something called PhysX. (Link: http://hothardware.com/Articles/NVIDIA-GeF...Zotac/?page=10). So now I'm leaning towards that one a little more. On newegg there's a 20 dollar rebate so it's only 10 bucks more right now, so I'm not concerned about the price being higher on this one.

That also reminds me, because I don't know for sure... Do all of these cards fully support directX 10? I assumed they did but mind as well make sure.

Tomorrow I'll probably start putting together the list for exactly what I'm gonna get. :)

That mobo is going to be expensive because it is using DDR3 ram this ram coust more than DDR2, so it will be a wast of time whatting for it to come out, unless you are rich.

Memory Clock, Stream Processors, Core clock, Memory Size these are the things I look at in a card I don't worry to much on the other stuff, the PhysX I don't now but can some one enlighten us on PhysX.

Have a look at this 10 page articl http://hardwarezone.com/articles/view.php?cid=3&id=2696 using it as an exaple it shows how the cards run diffrently on diffrent resolution, damian sed something to me and it reminded me of this articl, so have a look.

Yes bouth do fully support directX 10 :thumbs-up:

So I think I've decided to go with the motherboard that dcl first recommended, http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx...N82E16813131319. Looking at some of the reviews on newegg, someone mentioned that it's best to use the "qualified" memory with this board as recommended by Asus' website. I went and checked out the website and found this list for that mobo... there's two sections in the list, one for DDR2 1066 and another for DDR2 800. I want to get the better stuff, so I want the 1066, but I've always gone with Corsair as they've had the best reputation. However, the "qualified" memory for this board doesn't list anything from Corsair at 1066, only at 800. Should that bother me at all? Is Corsair no longer the best option? I was looking at http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx...N82E16820145214 FYI, and thinking about doing 8 gigs of it. :)

EDIT: Also, what is the difference between the memory I linked above and this one: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx...N82E16820145197? Just noticed that it has a lot more reviews, but I can't tell the difference between them. O.o

On another note, I'm trying to figure out what RAID is/does exactly. Is it worth it? I'm trying to figure out what to do for hard drives right now, the board's specs for it say:

PATA 1 x ATA100 2 Dev. Max

SATA 3Gb/s 8

SATA RAID 0/1/5/10 Matrix RAID

So I assume for one HD I would look at what there is for SATA 3GB/s, but what does the RAID spec tell me? Is this something worth exploring?

Cool, the recommended ram on that bourd is for the old bios 1111 the new bios is 1301 now. On Asus site I have seen that ram on some of others signatures in the forms so you should be allright to use it.

the differnce is the fan that's all.

On the CPU cooler, I looked at both of the ones you guys linked for me and they both look really nice. It occurred to me that I probably will try to overclock the CPU, as almost all the reviews I read on the quads on newegg were saying that they were OCing to 3.5 GHz without any issues (some I think even with stock cooling). Should this affect the decision at all? Since the second one, the XIGMATEK HDT-S1283, is quite a bit cheaper but still looks darn good I was leaning towards it.

Also, what's the difference between Vapo and Rifle bearing type? Is one clearly better than the other?

Ahh ok, so the memory should work fine with it. That's what I figured.

I went back and looked at the two memory's that I linked, and it didn't make sense to me, because the one that comes with a fan is cheaper. Then under the specs I noticed a difference... in the timing section, the cheaper one is 5-5-5-15. The expensive one is 5-5-5-15-2T. I have no clue what this means, so if someone could shed some light on that I'd appreciate it. ;)

This is something I haven't got in to my salf yet it's some wat complcated so I don't worry about it but this is the HD I got, http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx...N82E16822148288

I went to newegg and look again and this is in the features of the expensive one, DOMINATOR with DHX Technology. Enhanced Performance Profiles (EPP) allow automatic overclocking to aggressive performance settings, this is not in the fan one. You can go to corssair site and it will giv you more info on it. http://www.corsairmicro.com/

EDIT:hear is some info I found for you. http://www.corsairmicro.com/configurator/p....aspx?id=607222

OCC has their own guide on exactly what you're asking; made by Verran.

Awesome! Thank you both for the excellent links. :)

According to Corsair's list there, all of that memory I'm looking at will work fine. Thanks for the reassurance. ;)

The RAID-0 type is what I'd be interested in, though I'm thinking it would be too expensive for what I was thinking/dreaming about. I was thinking of getting one of those VelociRaptors for one and a more regular 50 dollar 500 gig one for the other, but from reading the guide it doesnt sound like that would make it any faster or do what I want... and getting two VelociRaptors, even the 150 gig ones, probably would be too expensive for that. So I'll probably get one 300 gig one if I go for the speed.
