Altec Lansing Sucks

2nd set of speakers to have a problem with.

My first was a 2.1 system which the volume knob would cause tons of static, eventually that speaker that housed the knob died.

this 5.1 system's center channel gets INSANELY loud in random moments to fix it I have to move the subwoofer around.

Yes all wires are okay its something internal in the speakers.

Altec lansing sucks.

That is all

i have 2 pair of altec lansing speakers, both are 2.1 systems, one came with our first and second computers (both gateways). i loved them for what they are.

my sister uses the newest set (10 years old) on a daily basis, the others work but they arent being used...in the attic somewhere.

I personally hate the brand too, not because they are totally bad but because of what their prices and style lets on. I believed they'd be powerful and great for the price I paid for them, not only that but their style let on to being some great speakers that would be really classy. Come to find out they sounded middle-of-the-road and the knob broke on them shortly after I bought them.

I know one thing, I'm steering clear of that brand. Creative and Logitech all the way!

First set sounds like it had some oxidation problems. If it was cleaned up it likely would've worked.

Second set also sound like it could be oxidation. Give the innards a good cleaning with 99% isopropyl and it should be good to go.

Hmm if their new stuff is crap then I wouldn't know. Have a pair of 2.1 speakers that are over 10 years old now.. 11 I think. Also have a pair of em I use on my 5.1 reciever... which I currently run comp sound over optical S/PDIF out to it. Both sets work fine I couldn't be more happy with them.

I've had two sets of AL 2.1 speaker systems in the last eight or nine years. Both of them have been great. The oldest kit still works but is tucked away in a cabinet. The newest kit I still use daily.

Sorry for your bad luck.
