Did a search and there was nothing recent.....
after our move to Atlanta, my office is set a bit different and it would be easy and fun to set up a 5.1 setup.....

I will be running it (for now) off of the onboard sound of my DFI blood iron board.... I know, I know... but I just don't want to put a huge amount of money into this....

while I used to play in bands and was a DJ... I'm really not an audiophile any more....
main use will be for some gaming and an occasional movie when the wife is watching her "reality" shows......

I really don't want to spend too much on this... as at some point I would like to do a surround system for the TV in the living room.....

so something on the cheap would be nice.

the Logitech 530 set looks nice...
the 5500 looks great, but way more than I need for my small office and more than I want to spend....
any other decent but inexpensive 5.1 speaker sets out there??

see... Im 41 so since I am gray, senile, old(compared to you whipper snappers!), and deaf..... I can't hear much anyways... (actually it is the years of playing drums and being a DJ that did that!!)

Well, if you're going for a sub and satellites, like the Logitech sets, the bigger the better. The more powerful they are the quieter you can have them - I've had both Logitech and Creative surround setups and they've both sounded terrible when turned up loud.

I have the Logitech Z-5400's and I'm blown away by these! There's no other phrase but THEY ROCK (in this case, literally)! However, if you are in a small office and don't have much money, I suggest the Z-530/540's. I had this 2.1 Creative set (bought it at Walmart for 19$ back in the day!) which was awesome, so I really can't picture a Logitech 5.1 set being bad!

I guess I have no excuse for not being as awesome as King... - iKillSteal

Seriously, big credit goes out to King for maintaining this list. He puts a lot of work into this thing and he deserves our thanks! - Verran

I have the 5500's and absolutely love them. They are a bit pricey but man they sound good. I also have a set of I think x530's that I hooked up to my ps2 but the sound is no where near as good as with the 5500's. As far as cheaper sets go I have always had good luck with and enjoyed the sound from Altec Lansing. I still have two sets of the 880's laying around that work great and sound pretty good for 7 year old speakers.

I hope you enjoy your 5500's!

I decided rather than upgrade to a new sound card ($200) (using on-board sound) and a new set of 5.1 speakers ($200) (have Polk Audio AMR 150), I will buy a set of Bose Companion 5 Multimedia Speakers ($349). They connect to the computer through a USB port. They sounded great when I listened to them in Best Buy. Of course, I won't buy them from BB, I will get them from Newegg.

You don't want to buy those...

You are paying $319 more than they are worth..

If you see the cops - LEAVE.

If the cops are coming - Don't be there.
If you show up and the cops are already there - DISAPPEAR.
Anyplace the cops are and you aren't, is a good day

:withstupid:

If Bose sold logo badges to stick to stuff, they'd probably be about $300
