Hard Drives Power Supply

Can someone give me some information on new forms of power supply. I recently bought a hard drive(sata). I already have one sata drive. yet this had a completely different connection point for the power supply. its not the usual power supply that has been going since the beginning of time(about an inch long with the three or four different wires).

 

What do you call these new interfaces? I bought mine unknowingly and have had to send it back.

There was a short period were the new SATA drives had both the 4 pin molex and new SATA power connections. The power for SATA drives now is predominently the new SATA power connector. You can buy adaptor cables at all hardware shops to convert the 4 pin molex to SATA power for very little money.

I'm almost positive that Paul's on target here but just to make sure...

And as Paul said, the early SATA drives had both power connectors on them, but most current ones will only come with the new one. If you need a converter, they're pretty easy to come by.

I have managed to buy one. Thanks for the responses. I am surprised the guy on ebay I bought it off did not have that information.
