Fresh Xp Install Won't Let Me Install Nvidia Sata/raid Drivers

Recommended Posts

I just reinstalled Windows XP today, was planning on dual booting with Ubuntu. I updated all my Drivers, but whenever I run the chipset drivers Nvidia RAID/SATA doesn't show up. I think Nvidia Mediashield is what it was renamed to, but even that doesn't work. I looked in my device manager and it shows my raid hard drives as SCSI. I have a lot of info on my Raid so I don't want to lose it. Would updating my BIOS erase my Raid?

I have an nForce 4 motherboard. My Raid hard drives are both SATA and I use them as storage not for main OS.

As long as you don't make an array in the RAID BIOS, then the array will stay intact regardless of BIOS updating...

Do you have RAID enabled in the BIOS and the relevant SATA channels enabled for RAID?

Do you have SATA *and* RAID controllers in the SCSI/RAID Controller section of Device Manager?

Yes to all of those. What I don't have in device manager is SATA controller. I left my BIOS and RAID ARRAY alone when I refomated the OS hard drive. So my data should be ok. I will update the BIOS tomorrow morning. Posting this from Ubuntu :D. Atleast one good thing came out from this so far :P.

Thanks for the speedy response!

When i tryed latest Nvidia 15 drivers with "Mediashield" sata drivers, nothing helped, it didn't worked. Drivers didn't recognize the array

and because i had os on raid i got my self into bsod loop. Fixed it only by returning to 6.86 drivers.

Don't know what the hell of a drivers they released.

Just did a fresh reinstall and install 6.86. IDE ATA now shows Nvidia nForce4 Serial ATA Controller and my Raid in it as Primary Channel and Secondary Channel. nForce Raid Controller is installed, but I still can't see my raid in My Computer.

Windows Install Disc Partitioner shows my raid as NvRaid, so idk why it won't show up once Windows is installed.

Control Panel\Administrative Tools\Computer Managment\Disk Managment ... do you see the array there? You might need to partition/format it to make it visible.
