I am reformatting my machine, and thought i would give XP one more go.

Although as i am done installed/formatting and my computer restarts, everytime it says "Error loading operating system"

I have 2 drives, 500gb and 250gb, but only the 500 is plugged in. Any ideas?

I would try my Vista disk but it is at a friends.

i tried again and got this

"File i386ntkrnlmp.exe

The error code is 14.

Setup cannot continue."

the disc is in good condition, not that many scratches on it..

I de-clocked my comp a bit and that error went away.

But im still getting the Error loading operating system

man....

ALWAYS install the OS at STOCK SETTINGS....

did I say that clear enough...?

a ram timing can corrupt a file while loading and OS and why take the chance...?

As you have now found it just creates more work than it's worth...;)

Not to get to simple on you but is the disc in good shape? Also have you tried a different CD Rom? I have had freaky stuff happen and all it was, was one of the two I listed.

Yes, something was aborted. You need to format the drive with the OS, using 1 or 2 sticks of ram, with no OC's. Then patched up, reboot, load in, defrag, reboot, then OC.

I've never had a problem installing any operating system with my system OCed! As long as it's stable it doesn't matter from my experiences. That goes for Windows, Hackintosh, or Linux! But putting one Ram stick in and running everything at stock clocks can't hurt!

Rob you need to make sure your Hard drive the first hdd it boots from [iN BIOS]

Next make sure your jumper is set to Master!

Reformat, the long one!

If you think the cd is scratched you can always use a resurfacing kit just google it you probably have the materials to do it at home.
