ShaneHm2 Posted April 16, 2008 Posted April 16, 2008 Hey there all im just wanting to know what is the fastest CPU people have managed to get working in this board and with what bios, im hoping to get a 8400 working in mine. Now ive done a bit of reading and reasearching and found out that it can support maximum 1066FSB according to Intel's 975X product page. However the E8400 is 1333FSB CPU. Im not wanting this as a desktop computer, it will be used as a dedicated F@H box and im wanting to upgrade the cpu n it since the cpu already has another better suited board waiting for it. So if you can guys can roughly tell me on this kinda template: CPU (BATCH, SSPEC) FSB your using miultiplier bios revision (and whether its a dfi bios or not) ty
markjohnson Posted April 23, 2008 Posted April 23, 2008 I don't belive Intel released a BIOS for the new 1333FSB CPUs. I think you only can get the 1066 ones. Maybe the 6x50 CPUs might work? The are still in the conroe series(65nm) and may work. I've heard of people running those E8400 at 1066 speeds and then overclocking them. But I'm not sure if the 975 BIOS will ready the CPU at all without an update at least for the generic Wolfdale series(45nm) Maybe try the DFI forums (ClubDFI) and see if anyone has experimented. Sorry I wasn't more helpful -=Mark=-
markjohnson Posted April 23, 2008 Posted April 23, 2008 ok, I just did a quick search and it seems the last BIOS update added new CPU support. It didn't mention which CPUs as Intel want you to buy new board - hehe. But there were mentions of people actually using the E8400 on the Intel 975 boards. But I didn't see any test results from that yet. Anyway, If you plan on getting the E8400 even if you have to buy a new board then I'd say buy the E8400 first and test. The conroe's only ran 1.35V and the new E8400 run at 1.25V and Intels recommeds a top volt of 1.3625 which is always a conservative number if coming from Intel and should be more than safe. I did another quick search for 975 E8400 Badaxe and found this: http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/showthread.php?t=175135
