laptops and xp

Recommended Posts

(Assuming a laptop meets minimum XP requirements)

If you buy a(dell , HP, toshiba etc.) laptop that comes with Vista installed, how much of an effort does it take to wipe out Vista and install good ol Windows XP?

Download the XP drivers from the chipset makers (i.e. realtek, intel, etc) and save them to a flash drive/CD/etc

then just load an XP disk and format/install just like you would on any other PC.

Just make sure you get all the drivers in advance ;)

a lot of laptops these days use intel graphics and IIRC nVidia now directly supports the newer mobile graphics driverwise. Otherwise you can also check out laptopvideo2go.com; they have nodified .inf files for the forceware drivers that support the mobile cards as well.

Be careful though, there were several laptops floating around that used sound cards without available XP drivers. I haven't heard anything about it for a while, so maybe the issue's resolved, but wanted to throw that out there anyway...
