RaZoR1394 Posted March 25, 2008 Posted March 25, 2008 Hello. Both my DVD burner's have problems (seems the laser is dying) so I'm considering buying two Pioneer DVR-215D and putting one in each client. Problem is that I've heard (at least when they were introduced) that SATA burners have compability problems with some motherboards. So will this work? My clients are in my SIG. Kingfisher Posted March 25, 2008 Posted March 25, 2008 I don't see why not, I have 1 Lite-On DVD burner and 1 Asus DVD drive in my PC, both are SATA and work just fine.
radodrill Posted March 25, 2008 Posted March 25, 2008 The compatibility issues depend on the motherboard and which SATA port you use; problems occur if the port is controlled by a secondary SATA controller (not integrated into the chipset), which requires the installation of RAID drivers. The resulting issue is that you can't boot from that drive. As long as you connect the SATA optical drive to an SATA port that's controlled by the nForce chipset you won't have any problems.
