Vista dual boot

Recommended Posts

Currently running XP. Bought a sata drive and a copy of vista basic x64. Am thinking I just plug in the new drive without changing any jumpers enable the sata port and the drive should be recognized. Boot XP, install the vista cd and do an install.

I am going to preload the vista 64 drivers for my adapters on a thumb drive so they will be handy if I need them.

Am I on the right track?

Thanks in advance.

I think the easiest way is to install Vista with the XP drive disconnected, to make sure none of the boot files get stored on the XP drive. Then change your HDD boot priority whenever you wanna change OS. It's much simpler than if you did it the normal way and wanted to remove the Vista boot loader later. If you end up wanting to get rid of Vista later on you just wipe the Vista drive and that's it, the other way is a huge pain to get back to XP as your sole OS.

Hmm, that might work for me, guessing folks are doing that successfully?

The easiest way to do it period. I have XP, Vista32 and Vista64 on three separate drives on my test boards. During the boot process just hit the Escape key to choose which drive to boot from.

Use this method for Vista and Ubuntu currently
