Guest bobyjo Posted March 16, 2008 Posted March 16, 2008 I was lucky enough to get a brand new CFX3200 DR/G MB from MB Pro and have the system up and running. I am running two X1950 Pro video cards and have been running a X2-4800 Toledo processor with no problems. I started to completely build the system and dropped my X2 4800 and it hit a handle on a door of a cabinet on the way down. There are maybe 8-10 pins bent maybe 45deg at the most, I have sent this to a fellow that states if he cannot get this straightened out, he will not charge me anything. In the meantime I purchased a Opteron 180 to use and keep the 4800 as a spare. I cannot get this system to run with this opteron installed. It is drawing so much current the powersupply is cutting off after a few seconds. I can install a different cpu and the system is perfect. I am running a OCZ GamerXStream 700 Watt PS. Certified CFX and SFI, this may be an old question but I did not find exactly what I am looking for. Looking at the specs both cpus are 110w processors, why does one run great the the other no run at all. Can someone point me in the best direction? dr_bowtie Posted March 16, 2008 Posted March 16, 2008 the Opteron is dead....just as simple as that... you did clear the cmos right..?
Guest bobyjo Posted March 17, 2008 Posted March 17, 2008 Brand new from NewEgg and never opened. However I am returning it because of not working for me. SO There is no problem with my Powersupply? I was concerned due to the dual X1950 pros and the 110W cpu. I have already returned the Opteron to NewEgg and am tring to figure out exactly what processor I can use. the Opteron is dead....just as simple as that... you did clear the cmos right..? RHKCommander959 Posted March 17, 2008 Posted March 17, 2008 the pros' dont use much power. you could always remove one and see if it helps:confused:
Guest bobyjo Posted March 17, 2008 Posted March 17, 2008 Yea, but then I would be defeating what I started out to ackomplish. I think I am gonna have to get a X2 89Watter and see if that works. I have found these in a 4200 & 4000 series. These are quite a bit lower in price than the X2-4800. I found several of these and the venders are asking upwards of a grand for them. Pure robbery IMO::
maanyak Posted March 17, 2008 Posted March 17, 2008 reset the cmos...then instal CPU ifits not working,I think the problem is the CPU... And...I love my opteron170:cool:
RHKCommander959 Posted March 20, 2008 Posted March 20, 2008 i suggested it because it's easier then waiting a while for a new cpu to arrive that way you can be more sure. EX: if it works with one card, then its not the cpu...
wevsspot Posted March 20, 2008 Posted March 20, 2008 I'd be very surprised if it were the power supply. The OCZ GameXStream 700W is a spectacular power supply. Plus the system is working just fine with a different processor. My first and best guess is that you got a bum CPU. In the future, if you bend pins on a Socket939 processor, contact me and I'll straighten them for the cost of shipping the processor back and forth. No warranties of course, but I'm pretty good at getting those suckers straight. If you had seen the processor I had my hands on last week you'd of thought I was a magician. Biggest risk is not breaking one of the pins in the process.

EX: if it works with one card, then its not the cpu... Yes it did work with one vid card. I ran single card until the 2nd vid card was available to install. However it did not perform as well as I expected. With one card setup. Then I downloaded the new catalist 8.3 drivers and it still worked with only one vid card. It did go to sleep once in a while with one card. I turned off the main power and brought the system back up, usually the system would work as expected. Guest MadDias Posted March 22, 2008 Posted March 22, 2008 i too say that u got a dead opteron. the ocz700gsx works perfect, even with a 110w cpu and dual gpu. i was running an opteron@3ghz (probably a little more than 110w;)) and dual 2900´s (power hungry cards) without a single problem, other than the psu was getting rather hot and loud at full load. I will make arrangements to ship the processor to you, Then you get your go on this. This X2-4800 has been in my system for about a year and never any hicup ever. I definately would like to use that cpu in my cfx system. I will let you know. Thanks BJ
wevsspot Posted March 23, 2008 Posted March 23, 2008 If that becomes necessary, take a digital photo first and PM me so I can take a look at what's been done to the processor by the other guy.
