Dan42684 Posted March 13, 2008 Posted March 13, 2008 Well Tax return is coming up soon and I want to get started on building a new pc for myself. So Im upgrading from the system in my signature but I don't need a monster of a pc, just something to run all the new games but at a good video setting and what not. I'm curious if it's better to get the PCI express 2.0 x16 or is regular x16 is good enough. Processor I'm going for is AMD Athlon X2 6400+, going to run 2 WD Raptor 150gb hard drives, I'm not sure what else to get atm, I have 2 1gb Crucial Ballistix DDR2 PC2-6400. I wanna go Asus cause I know they make excellent motherboards.
SpeedEuphoria Posted March 13, 2008 Posted March 13, 2008 Well the video card is going to have to be up to snuff to run the games, 8800GT is a great one, 9600GT more on a budget. If you wait a month or so the prices should come down a little more on them. Why not Intel C2D?? Thats what I would recommend to anyone thats looking for max performance or bang for the buck
Dan42684 Posted March 13, 2008 Posted March 13, 2008 well my first build was intel but I wanna try AMD this time around plus I wanna give ati a shot on video cards (should of mentioned it).
SpeedEuphoria Posted March 14, 2008 Posted March 14, 2008 Well the 5000+ black edition is a great AMD chip that OC's just as high as the 6400+ OC's
Dan42684 Posted March 14, 2008 Posted March 14, 2008 Well the 5000+ black edition is a great AMD chip that OC's just as high as the 6400+ OC's could we stick to the topic of motherboard please?
SpeedEuphoria Posted March 15, 2008 Posted March 15, 2008 Well you already have your mind made up so why are you asking?? You want an Asus, so pick the one that has the features you desire and the price your willing to pay, I dont get it.
Dan42684 Posted March 15, 2008 Posted March 15, 2008 because I'm still fairly new to building pc's and I know there's people here who keep up with pc stuff constantly here. This is going to be my 2nd build and I haven't built a pc in 4-5 years. What Asus motherboard would you recommend?
SpeedEuphoria Posted March 15, 2008 Posted March 15, 2008 Well mainly it depends if you need raid? If you need SLI? and how much you are willing to spend?
Dan42684 Posted March 15, 2008 Posted March 15, 2008 don't need SLI, is raid where you have 2 hard drives? Cause I'm planning on having 2 raptor hard drives. As far as budget up to 200 dollars.

Angry_Games Posted March 18, 2008 Posted March 18, 2008 are you dead set on getting an Athlon64? I know you have a Pentium4 and want to go Intel, but at this time, myself, for a budget rig that will kick butt on almost any other rig owned by anyone you will meet...I'd still go with a Core2. Overall system is a better bang for the buck (Price-Performance), and if you are into the overclocking thing, they definitely give more bang for the buck. If not, ask dr_bowtie as he loves a few different AM2 boards that he's had his hands on...
