Angry_Games Posted March 9, 2008 Posted March 9, 2008 Yeah was just checking out the Egg as I've got a lot of parts laying around but not not enough of one technology to do a machine with (ie like socket AM2 cpu nad DDr2 but no AM2 board...plenty of 939 boards but no DDR1...AGP motherboards but no AGP cards *nor DDr1 as I said lol*) So was looking around at the egg as I mentioned, and wondered if they still carried any 478 motherboards as I have that kick-butt Northwood 3.4Ghz Engineering Sample and now I also have a Prescott 3.0Ghz (both 800FSB)...but no 478 boards. Check this out...I think I might have to get one just to see wtf, because my Northwood ES 3.4Ghz HT-enabled Pentium4 still has plenty of life left, especially with a PCI-E 16x slot for video! http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx...N82E16813138079 I'm sort of amazed at the 120+ user reviews...I've never even heard of this thing! Angry_Games Posted March 9, 2008 Posted March 9, 2008 hrmmm...I think I might have to actually order one of these just to check out and possibly review...everyone has access to Pentium4 socket 478 cpu's from old pulls, rigs, etc...and though it's old cpu tech, I am still EXTREMELY fond of Pentium4's...(especially my 3.4Ghz Engineering Sample!) dr_bowtie Posted March 9, 2008 Posted March 9, 2008 it will probably be stable as hell as it stands but the GeForce line is the lower basic line so it probably wont overclock well if you intend to...BUT on the other hand Most GeForce boards are the same as the TForce boards but with a very crippled bios so you may be able to flash to a TForce bios if you do intend to over clock.... for use in a customers rig with all stock settings I would say jump on it....but then again you already know all that... Angry_Games Posted March 9, 2008 Posted March 9, 2008 hey chucklehead...read the description at the link again lol...it's VIA P4M900 chipset, not an Nvidia... and I have a 3.4Ghz Pentium4 Engineering Sample to go in it so no real need of overclocking credit card payment still hasn't gone through so my card just got declined...have to wait bit looks like (which sucks because I found some Crucial DDR2-533 1GB sticks for $9.99 after MIR ($19.99 reg price) that would go perfect with it, as well as the E2180 OEM for $59.99 after MIR ($79.99 reg price) and some Corsair XMS2 2x1GB DDR2-800 for $35 after MIR ($59 reg price) basically was going to get 4GB DDR2 + mobo + E2180 for $234 but I'll have to wait a bit =/
sailindawg Posted March 9, 2008 Posted March 9, 2008 Can't beat that for the money spent. Be kind of cool if you could actually get a stable overclock out of all of that too!

Angry_Games Posted March 10, 2008 Posted March 10, 2008 i always dig VIA chipsets. I'm gonna figure out a way to procure one of these as I have a Prescott and the ES Northwood to fool with on it (and X1900XT etc)
schoolslave Posted March 10, 2008 Posted March 10, 2008 I still have an old 2.8Northwood sitting around....great little chips.

Angry_Games Posted March 10, 2008 Posted March 10, 2008 haha I still lots of "good" stuff but like YOUR old good stuff, it is quickly losing value...so maybe time to get rid of it or do something like this and prolong the lifespan
dr_bowtie Posted March 10, 2008 Posted March 10, 2008 I got some sweet ddr2-533 (3-3-3-8-1T) ram that would run real sweet in a rig like that....I dont have any Intel stuff nor did I mess with anything during the P4 days so I'll have to take your word for it... Angry_Games Posted March 10, 2008 Posted March 10, 2008 Well I got two 478 cpu's left and I'm really itching to check this motherboard out. Got to pay off the DIY-Street webserver bill first (actually we just have to move out of this xxxxing money-pit we are living in so we have extra money each month)
